About the trip

The route is spectacular and breathtakingly beautiful, with accommodation in staffed lodges. It’s pure luxury to ski in this landscape all day and then arrive at cosy lodges where your dinner awaits you. Come and go as you please and eat what you want, when you want.

We recommend that you are in good shape and are very familiar with the kit used in the mountains during winter. We also recommend worn-in ski boots and steel-edged skis, which will make this tour a fantastic experience.

Itinerary

Day 1:  Meet at Otta Station.
We meet at 16.00 at Otta Station. Special bus service to Gjendesheim. Rooms will be allocated on arrival, followed by dinner and gathering around the fireplace in the lounge to plan the tour and meet each other..

Day 2: Gjendesheim–Glitterheim lodge 1,390 m.a.s.l., about 19 km/7 hours
After a hearty breakfast, and making packed lunches and filling a thermos flask, we head north to the Glitterheim mountain. Today’s trip is long and incredibly beautiful, first taking us to Bessvatn lake with a view to the impressive Besshø mountain, and then down the waymarked trail to Russvatn lake. From Russvatn lake we ascend once again and are rewarded at the top of the pass with panoramic views towards Glittertind mountain. We hope for perfect snow conditions and fun skiing down to Veodalen valley and the charming Glitterheim lodge.

Enjoy the homely atmosphere at Glitterheim and the delicious dinner that’s included.

Day 3: Glitterheim–Spiterstulen lodge 1,100 m.a.s.l., about 16 km/5 hours
After a delicious breakfast, we pack our bags and get ready for today’s splendid stage. We follow the branch-marked trail over Skautflya mountain to Spiterstulen lodge.

Day 4: Spiterstulen–Leirvassbu lodge, 1,420 m.a.s.l., about 15 km/5 hours
A wonderful day awaits us with a trip up Visdalen valley to the ski-touring lodge Leirvassbu. People who enjoy ski touring love Leirvassbu lodge and the surrounding mountains, and you'll understand why when you see the 2,000-meter mountains everywhere you turn.

Day 5: stay at Leirvassbu. It will be a rest day or skiing to one of nearby tops/ ski tour in the area depending on group and weather conditions.

Day 6: Leirvassbu to Gjendebu, aprox. 18km/6 hours. The route of the day goes over Langvatnet and through Storådalen walley down to Gjendebu.

Day 7: Gjendebu to Fondsbu, aprox. 17km/ 6 hours. First part of the day we'll be going up Veslådalen with fantastic views in all directions. Then around Høystakka top and down towards lake Bygdin.

Day 8: The journey home
After breakfast at the lodge, with views over Bygdin lake, we pack and get ready for the snow vehicle that will take us to Tyin. Arrival Tyin at 09.45. From Tyin there is a bus service to Fagernes, and then on to Oslo.

Grading of guided tours: demanding

The mountains are beautiful but unpredictable in winter. Even the easiest of skiing trips can become very demanding in bad weather and difficult conditions. Having the right and proper equipment will often make these trips the most memorable, inspiring good camaraderie and stories to be told. In the mountains, you will go off-piste and need to be prepared to tread your own trails. Pack your rucksack in a proper and smart manner.

The tour package includes

The tour package includes: accommodation, tour guides, all meals (breakfast, lunch / thermos and usually three-course dinner), with the exception of: first day only dinner, last day only breakfast + lunch / thermos.

Necessary special diet: Please give notice when you book your tour!

Equipment

For safety reasons, your rucksack must contain the right, important clothing and equipment. We refer you to our winter packing list.
It is compulsory that all participants on our winter tours bring their own sleeping bag, sleeping mat, survival shelter/emergency bivy and shovel. nordic mountain skis and boots are required on all our mountain ski tours.
Ski skins and snow goggles (storm goggles) are very useful on our winter tours.
Read more tips about ski skins and ski wax.

You can use your sleeping-bag liner in the cabin/lodge beds. Sleeping bags cannot be used.

Tour leaders and tour routes

Our tour leaders are volunteers. They have undergone tour-leader courses and have a lot of mountain experience. Tour leaders derive great pleasure from guiding and enjoy sharing their experience and love of nature with participants.
