Location and transport

Gjendesheim is located at the eastern end of Gjende, perfect as a starting point for several trips in Jotunheimen.
Access by car:
There is a road right up to the cabin all year round. From Gudbrandsdalen (E6) you drive via Otta or Sjoa to Randsverk and then on to Gjendesheim. If you come from Valdres, drive via Fagernes to Beitostølen and over Valdresflya to Gjendesheim. NOTE: The road over Valdresflya is closed in winter. See www.175.no for updated information.
Parking:
Overnight guests at Gjendesheim tourist cabin park free of charge at the tourist cabin on the night or nights they stay at the cabin. If you are going on a longer hike into the mountains, you must park at Reinsvangen, 2 km from Gjendesheim. From Reinsvangen, there is a regular shuttle bus to Gjendeosen and the pier. See www.visitgjende.no for more information.
By bus:
In the summer season, there is a bus all the way to Gjendesheim. The timetables vary, find your departure at www.entur.no.
If you arrive in Gjendesheim by bus, you will receive a NOK 100 gift card at the reception which you can use for food, non-alcoholic drinks or other things at the cabin.

Check-in and check-out:
You can check in after 4 p.m. If you arrive earlier, you are most welcome to use our cozy living rooms, or leave your luggage and go on one of the nice hikes near the cabin (feel free to ask the reception for tips).
On the day of departure, check-out from the room/dormitory is by 10 a.m.

We have a license for serving alcohol, with all rights, which means that it is not allowed to bring own alcohol into any of our common areas, not even outside the cabin.

Special diet:
We also adjust the dinner to allergies - just remember to let us know when you book your stay. If you have forgotten to state it in your order, it is important that you speak to the staff at check-in about this. If you want a vegetarian dinner, we offer a vegetarian stew as an alternative.

We have 5 rooms that are suitable for staying with dogs. Remember to choose the correct room type in the booking solution when you book. Attention: dogs are not allowed in the dormitory.
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in our common areas such as the living room, dining room, etc. Also remember that there is a leash requirement from 1 April to 1 October.

It is not permitted to camp with vans, motorhomes or caravans near Gjendesheim. But our neighbors at Maurvangen and Bessheim will be more than happy to welcome you.
If you want to camp with a tent near Gjendesheim, the Norwegian "Allemannsretten" applies that means that you can set up a tent at least 150 meters from the nearest building. Do you want to use the cabin's facilities such as drying rooms, living rooms, showers, toilets, etc.? This costs NOK 100 per day. Contact the reception and we will help you. Also note that it's forbidden to cook and prepare food close to the cabin.

Luggage storage:
Are you going further into the mountains, but don't want to carry around all your luggage? You can store this in our ski storage room. Please note that this is left unlocked 24 hours a day and all storage is at your own risk.
