Booking and paying for DNT cabins is straightforward, whether you are planning ahead or paying after your stay. Below is a simple guide to help you understand how the system works and make it easy for you to plan and book your next stay at DNT cabins.

Our cabins are based on trust, cooperation, and volunteer contributions. Everyone is welcome to use them, but all guests must help take care of the cabins and leave them in great condition for the next visitors.
If you stay at a cabin without pre‑booking, you are expected to register your stay and pay afterward using the app. This system works well as long as all guests settle their bill.
The DNT Key
All of our cabins our locked with a DNT-key. You can borrow a key for a 100 NOK deposit, or buy your own for 100 NOK at our Hiking Center in Storgata 13, Bodø. You must be a DNT member to borrow or purchase the key.
Please note that some cabins in the DNT system are locked with a special key. Check the cabin information on Ut.no or in the UT app before beginning your trip.
Booking Your Stay in Advance
Most DNT cabins can be booked online through DNT’s official booking portal. The system shows real‑time availability and allows you to reserve single beds, rooms, or whole cabins depending on what the cabin offers.
Enter the name of the cabin, area, or municipality.
Select your dates and number of guests.
Choose the beds or rooms you want and add them to your cart.
Complete the booking by entering guest information and paying.
Once the payment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email and receipt
Drop-in at DNT cabins
Most of our DNT cabins allow drop‑in use. Cabins that require booking or a special key will clearly state this on UT.no or in the UT app. Drop‑in is a great option if you are hiking from cabin to cabin and don’t know exactly where you will stay each night.
If you arrive without a booking, we strongly recommend using the DNT app to pay for your stay. Download the app before you begin your hike, availible on all devices. The app also works offline. At the cabin, register accommodation, protocol and provisions in the app. As soon as you get cell reception, you’ll be notified to activate the payment. Your digital DNT membership card is also stored in the app.
If you do not have the app, write down the number of nights, the dates of your stay, and the protocol number from the cabin register. You can then download the app and pay as soon as you have coverage again.

The DNT key can be rented by members of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT).
