The Norwegian Trekking Association is committed to improving sustainable practices within our operations, and to facilitate for and inspire to sustainable choices in outdoor life activities.
Sustainability Policy and Goals
Through our Sustainability Policy and Goals 2021-2030 (in Norwegian only), the Norwegian Trekking Association wish to improve sustainability within our operations and make it easier to engage in nature and eco-friendly outdoor life activities. Our policy encompasses three ambitions and twenty goals and seeks to inspire people to make eco-friendly decisions in their everyday life.
How we work for sustainable practices
Sustainability report
The purpose of our yearly sustainability report (in Norwegian only) is to get an overview of our sustainability related activities and to identify what we do well and what we need to improve with regards achieving our goals.
Sharing our ideas and experiences
A man goal of the DNT sustainability work is to improve our organizational operations, to reduce the sustainability footprints of outdoor life and to be an inspiration to good sustainable practices for outdoor activities in Norway. With the hope of being a source of inspiration, we openly share our ideas and experiences (in Norwegian only).
Eco-Lighthouse certified lodges
One of the main goals of our Sustainability policy is for our staffed lodges to be Eco-Ligthhouse certified. Our staffed lodges commits to a high environmental standard i operations, fulfilling criteria for energy efficiency, waste management, and resource utilization, as well as a holistic approach to eco-friendly hospitality in nature.The scheme not only ensures that the environmental impact of each stay is minimized but also educates visitors on sustainable practices in wilderness areas.
Sustainable travel options
The Green card scheme (in Norwegian only) is a collaboration between the DNT and two of Norway's main public bus service companies in order to stimulate travels by public transport to the mountains. Guests who choose to travel by public transport to DNT staffed lodges receive a gift card of the value of NOK 100,- to spend on food or non-alcoholic drinks at the lodge.
Reuse and repair of gear and clothing
ReTuren (in Norwegian only) is a caring workshop helping people to take care of valued clothing and gear, extending the items lifetime by repairs, redesign and teaching people to do this themselves.
