Fondsbu is located in the impressive National Park Jotunheimen at lake Bygdin at Eidsbugarden, a historic tourist destination in the Jotunheimen mountains, ideal for hiking and other outdoor acitivites. The possibilities for hiking are almost unlimited, which makes this place a preferred destination for Norwegians as well as foreign visitors, many of them regular visitors coming back every year. This lodge is well known for its homely atmosphere, its friendly and welcoming host and staff, and the delicious scents of local produce being prepared for the next meal.
By public bus daily in the summer season from Oslo or Årdal with bus connection to Eidsbugarden at Tyinkrysset.

Day hikes for hikers from the lodge
From Fondsbu and Eidsbugarden there are vast possibilities for hiking in all directions:
Summit hike to Utsikten 1483 m.a.s.l. Return hike on T-marked and unmarked trail.
Summit hike to Sløtafjellet 1401 m.a.s.l. Return hike on unmarked trail.
Summit hike to Torshammaren 1436 m.a.s.l. Return hike on T-marked and unmarked trail.
Summit hike to Gravafjell 1480 m.a.s.l. Return hike on T-marked and unmarked trail.
Adventure trail, roundtrip up to Rusteggi, coming back to Tyinholmen and then back to Fondsbu, easy, 5-7 hours
Gravafjellet roundtrip, including the peak Gravafjell (1480 moh) - along the shore of Bygdin direction Gjendebu, over Gravafjell and back down Postruta to Fondsbu, medium, 6-8 hours
Summit hike to Uranostind 2157 m.a.s.l. A hike across Uranosbreen glacier for those with formal training or accompanied by a professional guide. Return hike.
Walks:
Walk on the south side of Bygdin lake on the trails and in the terrain. Return the same way.
Follow the T-marked trail on the North side of Bygdin lake. Return the same way.
Walk on the gravel roads at Eidsbugarden.

Other activities and outdoor life enjoyment:
Fishing is permitted in all lakes and rivers withint the Eidsbugarden Fjelleiedom, except for lake Bygdin. Purchase of fishing licence is necessary (from NOK 60,- per person) .
Canoeing or rowing boat on lake Aurdalsvatnet. Guests staying at the lodge can borrow canoe or rowing boat and life jackets for free.
Relax
The lodge has an outdoor sitting area for easy outdoor life enjoyment.
In short walking distance from the lodge, there are many spots along the lake or streams for outdoor relaxation and bathing in crystal clear water on a hot summer day.

Our lodge has several living room spaces, with great views of the landscape that can be enjoyed from the warmth of the fireplace.
There are playing cards, board games and books for guests to borrow (mainly in Norwegian).
From our kitchen with love: Fondsbu take pride in serving their guests tasteful and well prepared meals, using local produce from farms and hunters in the local vicinity.
Winter at Fondsbu
Fondsbu is a popular lodge for winter adventures and a lodge you can get to by public transportation with bus and tracked vehicle also in winter time. Shared guest facilities: toilets, shower room, drying room and living rooms.
The tradition of the DNT lodges is to be a safe refuge in the mountains and provide shelter and food to the Norwegian Trekking Association members and other mountain travellers. At the DNT lodges we offer beds, not rooms.
We strive to place travel companions in rooms of their own, but in busy periods our guests should expect to share room with other mountain travellers at the self-service cabins and some of our lodges.
