Snøheim is located in the center of Dovrefjell, with views of the Snøhetta massif and its eleven peaks over 2,000 meters. A day hike to Snøhetta can be made from the cabin. The surrounding landscape is open and barren, and is home to wild musk oxen. Visitors must maintain a safe distance from the wildlife.
Show Respect and Protect the Wild Reindeer
When visiting Snøheim, you are traveling through a wild reindeer habitat. Norway’s wild reindeer populations are threatened, largely because cabins, roads, and power developments have fragmented and reduced their natural habitats. Even as a temporary visitor to the mountains, your presence can negatively impact the animals.
