Privacy Policy
As a member of DNT, or as a user of our services, you give us access to information about you.
The Norwegian Trekking Association ("DNT") is a member organization registered in the Brønnøysund Register Centre with organization number: NO 979 469 241.
DNT is the data controller for the handling of personal data collected when you sign up for DNT and use our services. We comply with the current data protection regulations in our processing of your personal data.
The legal basis for the processing of personal data in DNT is your registration in DNT and acceptance of our membership terms, as well as your use of our services.
DNT is a federation of 53 independent member associations with affiliated local branches. This privacy policy applies to the processing of personal data in DNT's common systems. Some member associations and affiliated local branches may have their own systems or process personal data that is not described in this privacy policy.
1. What Personal Data Does DNT Process?
Membership in DNT
When you sign up for DNT, we request and process the following personal data in our member register:
- Full name
- Phone number and email address
- Postal address
- Date of birth and gender
- Registration date and payment information
- In addition, we store which member association you belong to, as well as which services are related to your membership.
In DNT, you have the opportunity to establish a family membership or household membership. By creating a family membership or by enrolling more people in your household, you will be designated as the account manager, and you will be asked to provide the names and contact details of the other members of your family or household. In a family or household membership, personal data is processed in the same way as a regular membership.
Children can also become members of DNT. For children under the age of 15, a guardian shall establish and administer the child's membership on the child's behalf until the child reaches the age of 15.
Creating a User Account ("DNT User")
In order to access your membership information on My Page or to be able to use some of our digital services, you must create a user account (called a "DNT user"). The user account is linked to your membership and your personal information that is registered in our member register.
You do not need to be a member of DNT to create a user account or to use any of our digital services. For non-members, we ask for your name and email address when you create an account. DNT does not use this information for anything other than the services you have registered for and to be able to communicate with you about these, unless you have given us consent to do otherwise.
When you create a user account, you must choose a password that you use for logging in later. This password is encrypted and cannot be read by others.
DNT App
As a logged-in user, you will have access to information about yourself, such as your full name, membership number, membership status, and member association. You can see the same information about your family members or household members.
When you use the cabin payment functionality in the DNT app, we automatically link shopping carts you create to you as a logged-in user. This information can be used to follow up on users who have unpaid shopping carts in the app.
We also store data about you if you pay for accommodation or provisions via the app. We do this in case there is a need for dialogue about the purchase between DNT and you as a customer (for example, if there is a need for a refund). In this regard, we store your full name and email address, as well as information about what you have purchased, including prices.
If you are going to pay for accommodation for more than yourself, you will be asked to enter the names and email addresses of the other guests as well. This data is only used for DNT to have an overview of who stays in our cabins.
Registration for Joint Trips, Courses, and Activities
When you sign up for joint trips, courses, or activities organized by DNT's local member associations, hiking teams, or groups through DNT's common registration system, we may request and process personal data such as name, email address, date of birth, membership number, as well as other information (allergies, special needs, contact information for relatives, etc.) that is necessary for the processing of your participation in the activity. If you sign up for other people besides yourself, you will also be asked to provide personal information for these individuals. The information is only used to manage and communicate with you about your participation in the activity, unless you have given us consent to do otherwise.
Booking Accommodation in Self-Service and Unserviced Cabins
When you book accommodation at DNT's self-service and unserviced cabins through DNT's common booking system, we ask for and process personal data such as name, email address, age, membership number, and nationality. If you book accommodation for more than yourself, you will also be asked to provide personal information for these people. The information is only used to handle and communicate with you about your order, unless you have given us consent to do otherwise.
Tour Leader Education
When you have completed a tour leader course in DNT, your tour leader status will be registered in a common, internal tour leader register in DNT linked to your membership information. We also register any instructor roles you have. Your registered tour leader status will be available to you on My Page. The information is only used to manage and communicate with you about your tour leader status in DNT.
Registration as a Volunteer in DNT
You can register as a volunteer in DNT. This is done by contacting the local association you want to contribute to. When registering, we ask for and process personal data such as name, address, phone number, and email, as well as where and how you want to contribute as a volunteer. The information is processed in our volunteer system, which is built on Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
In this system, we also store which volunteer assignments each volunteer has participated in and what roles they have had on the assignment. We will also ask that the volunteer register relevant skills and interests, so that we make sure that we staff the assignments with volunteers who have the right and necessary skills.
For some assignments, we require the volunteer to present a police certificate. In the system, we have separate fields where we register that the registered person has presented a police certificate and the date of presentation. The police certificate itself is not stored by DNT.
The information is only used to manage the association's volunteer work and to communicate with the volunteers in connection with participation in volunteer work and offers to participate in various assignments.
Use of Chat or Other Digital Contact and Feedback Forms
When you contact DNT via chat on dnt.no or via other digital forms for contact and feedback, we will sometimes ask for your name and email address in order to provide you with better and faster processing of your inquiry. The information is only used to handle and communicate with you about your inquiry.
2. What Is the Personal Data Used For?
DNT uses the personal data primarily to manage and communicate with you about your membership in DNT, as well as to handle and communicate with you about the services you have registered for, as described above.
Furthermore, we collect and process information when you use our services in order to analyze market trends, improve our publications and services, and to prevent and detect abuse. With your consent, we will also use this information to personalize content and provide you with targeted information, offers, and advertising based on behavior and assumptions about preferences.
DNT can clean and compile your personal information with public registers and other databases in order to obtain the most correct member data, including address information.

- To prevent misuse or abuse of our services
We will only keep your data for as long as it is necessary to fulfill the purpose of the processing, or for as long as we are required by law to keep it. After this, your personal data will be deleted or anonymized. Anonymized information cannot be traced back to you and will be used, among other things, for statistics and other purposes that can help us improve and further develop our services.
Marketing and Newsletters
As a member, DNT and DNT's local member associations can send you relevant member information, such as information about membership benefits, invitations to trips and activities, trip suggestions, as well as tips and advice on outdoor life. We will send member information until you have actively unsubscribed from DNT. You can opt out of receiving such information via My Page or via the opt-out links in the communications you receive.
We will not, without your consent, use your personal data to offer and send you targeted and customized marketing and information about our offer in our own channels (such as dnt.no, UT.no, and newsletters by email or SMS). The information may also be used to target our communications via our social media accounts. This information can be about relevant trips and activities in our member associations, current membership benefits, as well as promotional offers from DNT or our partners. You can change your settings for what you want to receive on My Page at any time. The legal basis for processing personal data as described in this section is your consent.
