Important Information & FAQ

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions and practical details regarding your stay at Øitangen.

Cabin Equipment & Amenities

All cabins are stocked with essential supplies, including toilet paper, coffee filters, hand soap, and cleaning products.

Kitchens: Fully equipped with tableware, cutlery, pots, pans, a coffee maker, a refrigerator with a small freezer compartment, an oven/stove, and a dishwasher.
Outdoors: There is 1 fire pit (bålpanne) outside each cabin. Firewood and charcoal are available for purchase on-site.

Final Cleaning (Optional Service)

Guests are normally required to clean the cabin before departure. However, if you would prefer to skip the chores, you can purchase a final cleaning service (utvask). You can easily add this option to your reservation when booking online via hyttebestilling.dnt.no.

Dogs at Øitangen

Four-legged friends are welcome, but please respect the following rules:

  • Dogs are strictly prohibited from being on furniture and beds.
  • Dogs are not allowed in the indoor common areas.
  • Each cabin has a dedicated dog crate available, located either in your housing unit or the woodshed.
  • Leash Laws: Please strictly respect local leash regulations.

Tenting Restrictions

Tenting is strictly prohibited on the Øitangen property. For larger groups renting the entire facility, exceptions may be made for setting up a traditional lavvo (tipi tent). Please contact us at oitangen@dnt.no in advance for permission.

Cycling & E-Bikes

Jomfruland is a beautiful island to explore by bike, but specific rules apply:

E-Bikes: Electric bicycles and electric scooters are prohibited across the island, except on the Main Road (Hovedveien) connecting Tårnbrygga pier and Øitangen.
Where to ride: Cycling is only permitted on designated roads and trails.
Northern Tip: We kindly request that visitors do not cycle north of the Øitangen property to protect local nature.

Respect Jomfruland National Park

Øitangen is located on the northern tip of Jomfruland and sits entirely or partially within the borders of Jomfruland National Park. To protect this unique environment, please note the following rules:

  • No Motorized Vehicles: All unauthorized motorized traffic is strictly prohibited. Violations will be reported to the police.
  • Keep Noise Levels Down: Unnecessary noise is not permitted. Standard public quiet hours apply at Øitangen, and outdoor loudspeaker systems for large parties/weddings are not allowed.
  • Year-Round Leash Law: Dogs must be kept on a leash year-round throughout the entire national park. Øitangen is a vital nesting and resting area for birds; long training lines/retractable leashes are not sufficient.
  • Campfire Rules: It is illegal to light campfires directly on the ground/rocks, or to use dry branches, local vegetation, or driftwood for firewood.
