About DNT Øitangen
Øitangen is a historic 19th-century farmstead that has been beautifully preserved and is now available for rent all year round!
Located on the northern tip of Jomfruland, directly within the national park, the property offers a unique island escape. From the main ferry pier at Tårnbrygga, it is a scenic 2.5 to 3 km trip to Øitangen, easily accessible either on foot or by bicycle. The historic courtyard is framed by four distinct buildings available for year-round rental, offering a combined capacity of 52 beds:
- Hovedhuset (The Main House): The oldest rental property on the farm, dating back to 1895, filled with historic charm.
- Sjøbua (The Seaside Cabin): Features its own small private beach right outside the door.
- Låven (The Barn): Fully equipped with modern meeting and seminar facilities for groups.
- Forvalterboligen (The Warden’s House): Offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The expansive courtyard grounds are enclosed by majestic, mature trees and traditional stone walls, opening up to a wide grassy lawn and a sandy swimming beach. From the farmstead, you are just a short distance away from local activities, including bicycle rentals, the Tårnbrygga pier area, the bird observatory, and traditional horse-and-carriage rides.
Every season on Jomfruland carries its own distinct magic—from the arrival of migratory birds and fields of blooming wood anemones in April, to classic summer holidays, dramatic autumn storms, and the deep, peaceful silence of winter. Øitangen is a truly unique destination within the DNT network, blending coastal lifestyle, rich local history, and a protected cultural landscape that DNT Telemark actively works to preserve.
Whether you want to gather a group of colleagues, celebrate with family, or plan a school trip, Øitangen provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable island experience!
