Hikes & Activities at Øitangen
DNT Øitangen serves as a fantastic basecamp for a wide variety of outdoor activities and unique experiences all year round. On Jomfruland, you can explore scenic bike paths, wander along charming gravel roads, join cultural events, go horseback riding, and much more.
Go for a Hike
Jomfruland is exceptionally beautiful and offers fantastic hiking opportunities. You can hike along the island's main road or follow marked trails that span the entire length of the island. Because Jomfruland is relatively flat with very little elevation gain, the terrain is highly accessible and perfect for easy-going hikes.
- The Northern Tip Loop: Explore the beautiful surroundings of Øitangen and the adjacent bird sanctuary.
- The Lighthouse Hike: Walk down to Tårnbrygga and visit the historic Jomfruland Lighthouse.
- The Pebble Beach Walk: Stroll along the wild, open shoreline on the eastern side of the island facing the open sea.
Take a Paddle Trip
DNT Øitangen has 6 kayaks available for rent between April 1 and September 30. Book your kayak rental here. If you bring your own kayak or canoe, you are more than welcome to use our sandy beach to launch or come ashore.
Note: If you arrive by private motorboat, please use the public docks at Jomfruland Guest Harbor located near Tårnbrygga.
Take a Bike Ride
You can bring your own bicycle on the ferry or rent one from Sykkel-Knut near the Tårnbrygga pier. The flat terrain, networks of paths, and gravel roads make the island incredibly bike-friendly.
Protect the Park: To safeguard the island's fragile flora and fauna, please do not cycle off the designated paths. Cycling is strictly prohibited north of the Øitangen property.
Test Your Fishing Luck
Sea fishing is permitted all year round along the entire coast of the island. Bring your rod and try your luck right from the shoreline or the pier!
Fire up the Fire Pit
Gather around the flames at the end of the day. There is a dedicated fire pit (bålpanne) outside each of the cabins at Øitangen available for guests to use safely.

Swimming opportunities are endless here! Øitangen features its own private beach and pier.
- Nearby: Just 600 meters down the road, you will find the lovely Sandbakken beach.
