Skarvheimen is located between the two more well-known neighbors Jotunheimen in the north and Hardangervidda in the south. The area stretches from Hemsedal in the east to the Aurlandsdalen valley in the west, from Tyin in the north to the Bergen Railway in the south. Skarvheimen got its name as recently as 1995 and offers a very varied hiking terrain, summer and winter. Here you will find everything from wide valleys and wide flyers to sharp peaks and steep slopes.
DNT Oslo and Omegn has ten cabins in the area. of which four are staffed and six are self-service. The good grid makes the area accessible to anyone who wants good outdoor experiences.
Midway between Hardangervidda and Jotunheimen lies Skarvheimen. A great hiking area where you will find both short and long walks, across the plateau and down into deep valleys. The area is easily accessible by public transport, has a number of DNT cabins and a well-developed trail network.
Would you like to walk one of DNT's concept routes? Then Medvind is the turn to go. The route is easily accessible and feasible for most people. The mountain road to the Aurlandsdalen valley offers nature experiences with great contrasts, from barren rocky landscapes to lush deep valleys, from mighty mountains to roaring rapids.
