Getting to Skarvheimen by Train or Bus
Skarvheimen is a mountain region located north of Hardangervidda and south of Jotunheimen. The area is highly accessible by public transportation, with train connections via Finse in the south and bus routes via Hemsedalsvegen or Tyinkrysset in the north. Below is an overview of the primary trailheads for summer and winter treks.
Train to Finse
Take the Bergen Railway (Bergensbanen) to Finse Station, located directly at the southern gateway to Skarvheimen. Finsehytta staffed lodge is situated next to the station and serves as a natural starting point for northern routes toward Geiterygghytta.

Bus to Hemsedalsvegen
The self-service DNT cabin Skarvheim is located adjacent to Breistølen Fjellstue on the Hemsedalsvegen road. From here, trails lead south into Skarvheimen toward Bjordalsbu and Iungsdalshytta, or north toward Sulebu and Tyin.

Bus to Tyinkrysset
Tyinkrysset serves as a northern entry point to the region, with trails leading south into Skarvheimen. The nearest accommodation is the self-service cabin Sulebu. From Tyinkrysset, local bus connections are available to Tyin and Fondsbu.

Summer Bus to the Geiterygg Tunnel
During the summer season, Geiterygghytta is accessible via a synchronized train and bus connection. Take the morning train between Oslo and Bergen to Ål Station, then transfer to Bus 850 and disembark at Geiteryggen Øst.
