Gaustatoppen Turisthytte is located near the summit of Gaustatoppen at nearly 1,883 meters above sea level. Built in 1893 from local mountain stone, the cabin offers views over large parts of Southern Norway. It is a staffed cabin providing food and beverage service daily during the winter and summer seasons, running from the winter holidays through the autumn holidays.
As a staffed DNT cabin, the hosts are present to facilitate your stay.
Gaustatoppen has 11 beds. All overnight stays must be pre-booked.
We serve a homemade 2-course dinner and breakfast. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a waffle are provided upon arrival.
Unannounced overnight arrivals cannot be accommodated due to safety regulations, as no extra mattresses are available. The cabin's entrance porch can be used as an emergency shelter if necessary, but it does not contain mattresses.
When is the cabin open for overnight stays?
July to mid-August: Open for overnight stays every dayr bookable online .
Early May to July / Mid-August to October: Overnight stays are restricted to weekends. Groups of 6 or more can request mid-week bookings by emailing gaustatoppen@dnt.no.
What is included in the stay?
The price includes a arrival waffle with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, a 2-course dinner on the evening of arrival, and breakfast.
To support sustainability, please bring your own bed linen or a sleeping bag liner. Disposable bed linen can be purchased at the cabin; we kindly ask that you pack it out with you when you leave.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are not permitted inside the main areas of Gaustatoppen Turisthytte. For daytime visits or overnight stays, dogs may use the cabin's entrance porch. Please note that the porch is uninsulated and does not have dog crates. Dogs staying overnight must be able to sleep alone and tolerate the presence of other dogs.
DNT members receive a discount on accommodation. Please note that member rates apply only to individual members. Non-members in a group will be charged the standard non-member rate.
