Hiking at Litlos
The 21.5 km trail from Middalsbu is the main summer access route to Litlos, leading you through Vivassdalen and open alpine terrain. Once at the lodge, the surrounding landscape offers several shorter day-trip options, including hikes to nearby fishing lakes or viewpoints, allowing you to explore the western plateau without a heavy backpack.
Note: Valldalsvegen road leading to Middalsbu is closed up to and including week 30. Please monitor the municipality's website for updates and the current status of the road reopening.
Follow these tips when traveling in mountainous areas with wild reindeer:
- Follow marked trails
- Stay still if you see wild reindeer, so that they can move away undisturbed
- Use binoculars and keep your distance
- Keep dogs on a leash
- Stay low in the terrain and move in the wind so that the animals do not get the smell from you
- Keep an eye on the dog and follow the rules on leashing

Hiking and Fishing around Litlosvatnet and Skavatnet
If you prefer a more relaxed day on Hardangervidda, hiking along Litlosvatnet and Skavatnet is an excellent alternative. Using Litlos as your base, you can explore the local area at your own pace.
The route follows local trails and tracks near the lodge. The terrain along Litlosvatnet is easy to walk, allowing you to either continue towards Skavatnet or find a spot by the water. This hike is well-suited for families and anyone looking for a relaxing day.

Experience the western part of Hardangervidda on this trek to Litlos. The route takes you through Vivassdalen and past Holmavatnet to the serviced lodge, Litlos, which is situated by Litlosvatnet. Enjoy a rest day at the lodge or explore the local area before returning along the same route to Middalsbu.
Day 1: Middalsbu – Litlos (21.5 km)
The trail heads through Vivassdalen, passes Holmavatnet, and continues to Litlos.
Day 2: Day at Litlos
Spend the day enjoying the lodge, fishing, or taking a short day hike in the area around Litlosvatnet.
Day 3: Litlos – Middalsbu (21.5 km)
Return along the same route through the open alpine landscape back to Middalsbu.
