How to get to Sandhaug
Sandhaug is located in the very heart of the Hardangervidda plateau. Because there are no roads leading directly to the lodge, it can only be reached on foot (summer) or on skis (winter).
Summer Access
By Car:
Drive up the Hallingdal valley, pass through Geilo, and follow Route 7 (Rv 7) across the plateau to Dyranut. From Dyranut, turn off and drive about 10 km along the gravel road to the designated parking area at Tinnhølen. From the Tinnhølen parking lot, the hike to SandhaugKlikk for å åpne sidepanelet for å få mer informasjon is a gentle 3-hour trek.
By Public Transportation:
- From Oslo: Take the train (the Bergen Line) to Geilo, and catch a connecting bus from Geilo onward to Dyranut.
- From the West: If you are traveling from Bergen, Voss, or Odda, you can catch a local bus heading directly to Dyranut.
Hiking from Dyranut:
- From Dyranut, it is a 1-hour hike to Bjoreidalshytta, and from there, an additional 5-hour trek across the plains to reach Sandhaug

On Horseback from Tinnhølen to Sandhaug?

Winter Access
Public Transport:
You can take a regional bus from Voss via Brimnes to Maurset, or use the express coach (Haukeliekspressen / Nor-Way Bussekspress) operating between Oslo and Bergen via Brimnes.
Skiing from Maurset:
From the east side of Maurset, there is a winter-marked (staked) ski trail to SandhaugKlikk for å åpne sidepanelet for å få mer informasjon, measuring approximately 30 km.
Skiing from Dyranut:
There is also a winter-marked ski route from Dyranut straight to Sandhaug, which is about 24 km.
