Stølsheimen features a well-marked trail network suitable for cabin-to-cabin trekking. The area includes 12 DNT cabins located across a varied landscape with numerous fishing lakes.
Geography and Accessibility
Located north of Bergen, Stølsheimen extends between the Sognefjord to the north, the Voss mountains to the south, the Masfjorden mountains to the west, and Vikafjellet to the east. The driving time from Bergen to the main trailheads is approximately two hours.
Terrain and Cultural Heritage
The region combines a rich history of traditional mountain farming (stølsdrift) with a varied terrain consisting of steep valleys, high-mountain plateaus, peaks, and rivers. The area accommodates both day hikes and multi-day treks, with opportunities for fishing and swimming.
Conservation
Stølsheimen includes several protected areas, such as landscape protection areas and nature reserves, established to preserve the region's ecosystems and wildlife.
