Fishing in Rondane

Rondane features numerous fishing lakes. Lake Rondvatnet contains an abundance of small Arctic char, and the area near the Rondvassbu campsite is well-suited for families and beginners to try their luck. Further into the Illmanndalen valley, there are several excellent lakes where larger fish can be caught.

Fishing Regulations and Licenses

A fishing license is required to fish in the area. Licenses can be purchased at the Rondvassbu reception desk.

Fishing in the State Common Land (Statsallmenning)

Within the state common land managed by Sel Fjellstyre, you can fish in 39 lakes as well as several rivers and streams. More than half of these are located in the Kringsæter area.

The lakes are relatively shallow and warm up quickly during the summer. While the area is mostly forested, some lakes lie above the treeline. The local fish species are trout, Arctic char, and perch, with catches of 1 to 2 kg recorded annually in several lakes. The area offers both family-friendly lakes and locations suited for experienced fly fishers.

The fishing waters are easily accessible, with some located near roads and others requiring a hike of one to two hours.

Southern area: Primarily trout waters. Ranglartjern is the only lake with perch, where a lean-to shelter (gapahuk) has been built.
Mountain terrain: Mostly lakes containing both trout and Arctic char.
