How to Get There
DNT Stavali is accessed via an extensive network of T-marked trails. Hikers can choose between steep ascents starting from the fjords or approaches connecting from other mountain lodges on the plateau. The cabin is located far from the nearest public road, meaning all access routes require a full day hike.
Primary Access Routes
Option 1: Via Husedalen Valley (From Kinsarvik)
This is one of the most frequented routes to the cabin, starting in Kinsarvik and ascending through the Husedalen valley, which is notable for its four large waterfalls.
- Distance: 12 kilometers.
- Duration: Approximately 5 hours of walking time (excluding breaks) due to the significant elevation gain.
- Return/Extension Options: The following day, hikers can return down Husedalen or continue along the T-marked trail toward the Dronningstien (The Queen's Trail) panoramic route, ending back in Kinsarvik or descending via the Monk Steps (Munketrapper) to Lofthus.
- Full Multi-Day Route Details: Kinsarvik–Stavali–Dronningstien (2-day itinerary, Very Tough, 38.1 km).

Option 2: From Vivelid Fjellstove
A popular alternative for those seeking a route with less elevation gain than the Husedalen ascent.
- Distance: Just over 16 kilometers.
- Route Details: Vivelid (Hjølmo)–Stavali.

Option 3: From Hadlaskard (Plateau Crossing)
Stavali serves as an excellent final stop on longer trekking routes across the Hardangervidda plateau. Hikers starting from locations such as Finse, Rjukan, or Haukeliseter can route their trip via Hadlaskard before arriving at Stavali, allowing them to finish their journey by descending through Husedalen or along Dronningstien.
Route Details: Hadlaskard-Stavali.
