Fishing Around Sandhaug on Hardangervidda
The area surrounding Sandhaug boasts countless small and large fishing lakes. While your fishing luck will depend on the weather and the season, you can always get the best insider tips from the lodge manager when you arrive. Here are some of our recommended waters near the lodge:
Fishing in Lake Nordmannslågen
The large lake right next to the lodge is teeming with fish. Nordmannslågen is relatively shallow, though you will find deeper sections near Besso. The fish vary in size, and where they bite best depends entirely on the weather, wind, and season. To help you out, guests can borrow rowing boats and canoes to fish on the lake.
Fishing at Olsenhølen
If you follow the T-marked trail from Sandhaug towards Lågaros and Mogen, you will reach Olsenhølen after about 4 km, which leads on to the Bremafoten rapids. This area offers excellent fishing opportunities along the shoreline and in the small rapids—perfect for fly fishing, spinning reels, or bait. The fish here range from a few hundred grams to well over a kilo.
Boats and Canoes
At Lake Nordmannslågen, we have two rowing boats and two canoes available for our guests to borrow free of charge. Life jackets (vester) are provided at the lodge.
