Grønn Fredag (Green Friday) – Swap Outdoor Clothing and Gear
Grønn Fredag (Green Friday) is DNT Ung’s annual response to Black Friday. Instead of buying new, we encourage you to swap, sell, donate, repair, and reuse outdoor clothing and equipment. Have a hiking jacket that no longer fits, or a pair of boots you rarely use? Give your gear a second life—it’s good for both your wallet and the environment.
Did you know that Norwegians are among the world's biggest spenders on sports and outdoor equipment? By choosing reuse over new purchases, we can reduce waste and make outdoor recreation more sustainable.
Organized every November by DNT Ung (DNT's youth branch), Grønn Fredag promotes circular consumption and encourages people to extend the life of outdoor gear. In spring, Grønn Onsdag (Green Wednesday) continues the initiative with another nationwide day dedicated to swapping and reusing equipment.
Grønn Fredag 2026 takes place on Friday, 27 November.

How Green Friday and Green Wednesday works:
At local events, you can:
- Swap outdoor clothing and equipment with others.
- Donate gear you no longer need.
- Sell your equipment at a price you choose.
- Buy quality second-hand outdoor gear.
Many DNT member associations also have permanent second-hand sections in their outdoor centres, making it easy to buy and sell used hiking gear throughout the year.
You can also join digitally by:
- Selling, buying, swapping, or giving away outdoor gear on Finn.no using #Grønnfredag.
- Sharing your favourite hikes with second-hand, repaired, or borrowed gear on social media using #GrønnFredag.
- Repairing and maintaining the equipment you already own instead of replacing it.

DNT Ung believes that everyone:
- Have something in the shed they don't use
- Have clothes or equipment that don't fit
- I think it's nice to be able to share
A movement for more sustainable outdoor life
DNT Ung launched Grønn Fredag in 2016 as a sustainable alternative to Black Friday. Since then, many organisations and businesses have joined the movement by hosting swap events, repair workshops, and initiatives that inspire people to reuse rather than buy new.
Those of us who love nature and the outdoors are also the group that consumes the most. Consumption cannot continue. We must take action and change our habits to lower consumption and reduce the environmental impact. Green Friday gives everyone a golden opportunity to join this turnaround.
Give your gear a longer life
Every year, large amounts of perfectly usable outdoor equipment end up as waste. By reusing, repairing, and sharing gear, we can significantly reduce its environmental impact.
DNT Ung hopes Grønn Fredag inspires more people to choose reuse, not just for one day, but throughout the year. Outdoor equipment is built to last, and with simple maintenance and timely repairs, it can provide many more years of adventures.
Environmental Code of Conduct
Det vi er glade i, tar vi vare på. Sammen med POW Norge har DNT Ung utarbeidet syv enkle miljøvettregler for et mer sporløst friluftsliv.
