Sustainability at DNT

At DNT, we firmly believe that tomorrow’s society needs more outdoor life, not less. At the same time, overconsumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and the loss of pristine nature represent the greatest challenges of our time. Everyone must take responsibility for this—including those of us who facilitate and enjoy outdoor recreation.

Sustainability Strategy

Through DNT’s sustainability strategy, we aim to improve our own operations and make it easier for everyone to take part in eco-friendly outdoor activities. With three core ambitions and 20 specific goals, we are working to make DNT and the outdoor lifestyle even greener and more inclusive. The strategy is also designed to inspire people to make environmentally smart choices in their everyday lives.

Sustainability Report 2024

Sustainability is a long-term commitment. To reach our goals, we need a comprehensive overview of our efforts and must track our progress to see where we excel and where we need to improve. Every year leading up to 2030, we will publish an annual sustainability report. The 2024 report is DNT’s fourth edition, detailing our current status on the path toward our goals.

Inclusion and Diversity

For DNT, sustainability also encompasses social justice. We work to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, regardless of their background or resources. Our goal is for our activities and services to be inclusive across all age groups and social backgrounds. Furthermore, we aim to strengthen our volunteer network to better reflect the diversity of our society.

The goal of our sustainability work is to improve our own operations, reduce the environmental footprint of outdoor recreation, and serve as a source of inspiration for the entire Norwegian outdoor community. That is why we openly share our ideas and experiences in a dedicated Idea Bank, hoping to inspire further positive action.
