Seven great trips from the Lysefjord tourist cabin
The Lysefjord is a fantastic place with lots of hiking opportunities for everyone! Below you will find some of the recommended trips. Details can be found on ut.no. Every year we also arrange several joint trips, both in the area by the Lysefjord and elsewhere in the area.
Hjøringsletta/Moen
From the end of the paved road at the innermost part of Lysebotn, follow the T-marked trail until you reach a distinctive suspension bridge where it is possible to cross the river, and walk back onto the large aursletta (Moen). A round trip of about 1.5 hours.
Around Osen
Start at the quay, walk along the beach, around the estuary and further up the river. A perfect place for picnics and swimming! If you want, you can walk over fence splits at the campsite, out on the road for a round trip, or follow the path further up to the road that goes into Tjodan power plant, over the river and further out towards the waterfall!
Kaldahåla, Kongesteinen and Tangakjelen waterfalls
The marked trail starts from the road at the innermost farms in Lyse. After approx. 10-15 minutes you are at Kaldahåla. The trip continues past the King's Stone. According to legend, the stone was a resting place for a Viking chieftain on his way east. Close to the King's Stone there is a large gorge where you can also see the giant pothole that is called Tangakjelen. The waterfall here is great in rainy weather. The trip takes about 1 hour.
The Dinner Cart
The marked trail begins by the road between Lysebotn and Sirdal, and goes through slightly hilly landscape before you can eventually see the distinctive view down towards Middagsjuvet and Lyse, about 700 meters below. The name Middagsjuvet and Middagskjerringå comes from the approx. 30 meter high stone pillar in the middle of the gorge. When the sun was over the pillar it was 12 o'clock, and it was noon at the Lyse farms. The trip takes about 1.5-2 hours round trip.
Jenafjell
The marked trail starts at the road midway between Lyse and Tangen. Follow the path further towards Grautheller for a while. The first part of the trip follows the old Skinnveien that ran between Lyse and Valle in Setesdal. Then follow the path south towards Jenafjellet, which is 800 meters above sea level. The trip takes about 4-5 hours round trip.
Flørli and the Førli stairs
Take a trip to the roadless hamlet of Flørli. You can use Lysebotn as a base and go on a day trip by boat to this little gem in the Lysefjord, or spend the night at Flørli Tourist Station. The circular trail takes you around the small village and gives you the opportunity to walk 700 steps on the stairs along the pipeline. The fittest can walk all the way up to Ternevatn - 4444 steps. More information can be found at UT.no. Remember to book a place on the boat if you want to visit Flørli.
Kjerag
With its 1000 vertical meters that plunge into the Lysefjord, Kjerag has become world famous among both hikers, mountaineers and base jumpers. The terrain is heavy and demanding, but once there, you will be rewarded for your efforts. A breathtaking view and the world-famous Kjeragbolten await you.
