A gift to the people

In 2022, Lågøya in the Oslo Fjord was bought by the Savings Bank Foundation DNB. This gorgeous island, with 21 summer cottages, was a gift to the people.

A collaboration

The Oslofjord Outdoor Council and DNT Oslo and Omegn have together been given the responsibility for developing and operating the offer.

The goal is for Lågøya to be an oasis for outdoor life and for the island to be open to everyone. At the same time, it is important to facilitate in such a way that we take care of the beautiful and vulnerable nature on the island.

It has been necessary to spend time on refurbishing the cabins for rent, and facilitating an efficient cabin booking with a functional payment solution. Guidelines have also been made for day visits, facilitation in the marina and much more. But now it's finally ready to welcome!

Book the cabins on Lågøya

For simple coastal trail cabins or unmanned DNT cabins, it is the location and the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities that make the experience unique. This is also the case on Lågøya. The cabins are sober, but cozy. They have no running water or electricity, but all are in good condition and offer a high level of well-being and beautiful views.

Important for the generations that come after us

- Together with the Oslofjord Outdoor Council, DNT Oslo and Omegn will now do everything we can to include children and young people to eventful experiences in the fjord here on Lågøya. Every day, we seek to facilitate the creation of good nature experiences. The fjord is an important focus area and the protection of Lågøya is a very important piece that falls into place in this work, Henning further explains.

Director Espen Søilen of the Oslofjord Outdoor Council has this to say about the collaboration: - The fact that an entire island with 21 cabins is secured for the public is absolutely fantastic. For almost 100 years, the Oslofjord Outdoor Council has worked against the dismantling and privatization of the shoreline. We are now looking forward to welcoming you to outdoor life and cabin life on Lågøya together with DNT. Here we want to give future generations the opportunity to enjoy the unique natural values that the Oslo Fjord can offer.
