Camping at DNT cabins
DNT facilitates an inclusive outdoor life and therefore welcomes everyone who wants to camp at our cabins. However, some guidelines apply, both when camping by our staffed, self- and unserviced cabins.
Is camping allowed at DNT cabins?
Yes. You are welcome to pitch a tent near all DNT cabins, but the rules may vary depending on the type of cabin:
Staffed Cabins
If you plan to camp near a staffed DNT cabin, we recommend contacting the cabin reception before pitching your tent.
Some cabins have designated camping areas, where you pay a fee to set up your tent. At other cabins, there may simply be rules about how close you can camp to the cabin.
Self- and no-serviced cabins
As a general rule, you should not pitch your tent closer than 150 meters from no-service cabins. This is to show consideration for guests who are staying overnight inside the cabin.
Do I need to book a tent pitch?
No, you do not need to book a tent pitch.
About the DNT cabins
DNT has 600 cabins across the norwegian mountains, forests, and coastline. Here you can learn about the different types of cabins, how the system works, and find practical information on how to use them.
Can I use the cabin facilities?

- Showers
- Toilets
- Drying rooms for clothes

Want to Have Dinner?

Self- and unmanned DNT cabins
If you are camping and want to use the cabin’s facilities, you must pay for a day visit. This can easily be done using the DNT-app.
Pay for food and accommodation with the DNT app
Use the DNT app to pay for accommodation and provisions at all unstaffed cabins. Select your cabin, register what you’ve used, and pay directly from your phone. Remember to download the app and log in before you head into the mountains to ensure it works offline.
