How to Show Consideration on Your Trip
Enjoying the outdoors is a shared experience. Following these simple guidelines ensures that we protect nature and respect our fellow hikers.
Respect the Environment
- Leave No Trace: Always think about "traceless travel." Carry out everything you bring in and clean up after yourself.
- Protect Nature and History: Avoid damaging vegetation and stay away from sites with cultural-historical value (such as old stone ruins or burial mounds).
- Do Not Disturb Wildlife: Keep a respectful distance from birds and animals, especially during nesting and breeding seasons.
Respect Others
- Keep the Peace: Many people hike to enjoy the tranquility of nature. Limit loud music, shouting, or unnecessary noise.
- Share the Trail: Slow down and make room for others, whether you are walking, running, or cycling.
- Respect Private Property: While the Right to Roam is broad, always respect the privacy of people living in houses or cabins near the trail.
Key Concepts for Hikers
- "Leave No Trace" (Sporløs ferdsel): This is the golden rule of Norwegian hiking. If you brought it in, you must take it out. This includes food scraps, orange peels, and hygiene products.

Follow these tips when traveling in mountain areas with wild reindeer:
- Follow marked trails
- Stay still if you see wild reindeer, so that they can move away undisturbed
- Use binoculars and keep your distance
- Stay low in the terrain and move in the wind so that the animals do not get the smell from you
- Keep an eye on the dog and follow the rules on leashing
