DNT Oslo Summer bridges
The summer bridges are laid out in June/July and taken in during the autumn. From September, when the staffed cabins close, the summer bridges will be dismantled.
What is a summer bridge?
A summer bridge is a seasonal footbridge that is deployed for the summer hiking season and dismantled before autumn. In addition to these seasonal crossings, the trail network also features permanent, year-round bridges.
When are summer bridges deployed?
Summer bridges are typically put in place when the staffed lodges open for the summer season—usually from around July 1st until September 26th. However, lingering snow, early summer flooding, and volunteer availability can affect the exact timing.
When are summer bridges removed?
- Bridges managed by staffed lodges are usually dismantled when the lodge closes for the season (note that some lodges close prior to September 26th).
- Bridges managed by self-service cabins are removed no earlier than September 26th. Heavy weather and early winter driving conditions may cause these dates to vary.
Where can I check the status of the summer bridges?
We maintain an up-to-date overview of all our seasonal crossings. You can check the current status and see if specific bridges have been deployed here:
How do we update the status?
The list above specifies when a summer bridge is officially open and safe to cross.
Occasionally, deployment is delayed due to high snow melt, or existing bridges may be damaged by high water levels. In these events, we will do our best to recommend alternative river crossings.
For detailed, real-time information about a specific bridge, please contact DNT Oslo og Omegn by phone at +47 22 82 28 00 or via email at info.oslo@dnt.no.
Help us keep the trails safe!
If you encounter a bridge that is damaged, washed away, or unsafe, we greatly appreciate your feedback. Please call us or send an email (preferably with photos) to info.oslo@dnt.no.
The overview below details which cabins are responsible for each bridge. We recommend contacting DNT Oslo or the specific cabin directly for in-depth local updates.
Please note: In the late summer, water levels are often low—unless sudden heavy rainfall occurs—making it possible to safely wade across or walk around the river at many traditional crossing points. If you cannot find your specific destination in the list below, please get in touch with us.
Neighboring Areas
The Bergen and Hordaland Hiking Association (DNT Bergen og Hordaland) maintains seasonal bridges in several adjacent mountain areas across Skarvheimen and Hardangervidda. Here you will find an overview of their bridges.
