Setesdal Vesthei
Kvinen
With its distinct architecture and modern interior, Kvinen stands out from most other cabins in the Setesdalsheiane region. Blending tradition with modern design, the cabin serves as an excellent starting point for several of our premier hut-to-hut hikes.

Show Consideration for Wild Reindeer
The natural habitats of Europe’s wild reindeer are facing unprecedented fragmentation. As a hiker, understanding how to minimize your impact is essential when traveling through these vulnerable alpine ecosystems.
Setesdal Austhei
Mjåvasshytta
After a 715-meter ascent, you reach this cabin idyllically situated by Lake Mjåvatnet. Canoes are available for guests who wish to try fishing on the lake. The cabin is frequently used by school groups and Barnas Turlag (The Children's Trekking Club). The hike up takes between 1.5 and 2 hours for adults, and with regular breaks, young children can also manage the ascent. Dogs are permitted in the safety cabin (sikringshytta).
Tjørnbrotbu
Situated at the northernmost end of Setesdal Austhei, this cabin is a 3- to 4-hour hike southeast of Hovden. There are also T-marked trails leading here from Bjåen, Byrtedalen, and Berdalsbu. The terrain is easy to navigate, and the landscape is open. Dogs are permitted here.
Take our digital outdoor course: Leave No Trace
The Right to Roam (Allemannsretten) grants us the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors more or less freely. But what does this right actually entail? Can you swim from private docks? What are the rules for campfires, and what—if anything—can you actually leave behind in nature? And let’s be honest: how do you actually go to the bathroom outdoors?
Nystøyl
Peacefully located on an old summer dairy farm (setervoll), Nystøyl is among the less-frequented cabins in Setesdal Austhei. The hike from the Torsdalsdammen dam takes approximately three hours for adults, and around five hours with children, allowing time for food and swimming breaks. The cabin is surrounded by several good fishing lakes and offers views over the Setesdal valley.
