Cabin-to-Cabin Hikes in Ryfylkeheiane
Experience the diverse landscapes of Ryfylkeheiane with these five multi-day, hut-to-hut hiking routes. Ranging from weekend trips along the fjords to demanding high-mountain loops, these trails connect various trekking cabins managed by DNT Stavanger and omegn.
1. Bakken gard – Sundmorkvatn
A varied weekend hike along the Lysefjord that requires transport logistics. One option is to leave a bicycle at Helmikstøl on Lyngsheia, drive down to Songesand to park, and hike to Bakken gard. The terrain along the fjord is demanding. The route passes through Skurvedalen to the Sundmorkvatn cabin, which is a rental cabin and requires booking in advance. The final section crosses open terrain and birch forests back to the road at Helmikstøl.

The Cabins on the north side of the Lysefjord
Langavatn – Blåfjellenden – Sandvatn – Langavatn
A multi-day loop in high-mountain terrain with moderate stages, starting from the parking lot at the end of the side road off Lyseveien. The short initial stage allows for a Friday afternoon start. Near Sandvatn, hikers can visit Mohidler, a historic rock shelter (hidler) used for overnight accommodation in earlier times.

3.Svartevassmagasinet Around
A demanding 6-day loop starting and ending at Ådneram. Daily stages range between 5 and 7 hours on marked trails in rugged terrain. The highest point is the crossing over Auråhorten at nearly 1,300 meters above sea level. The route passes through a wild reindeer habitat; hikers must maintain distance if wildlife is encountered. The trek can be extended via Storsteinen to Eidavatn/Nilsebu, or from Litle Aurådal via Nilsebu to Grautheller.

4. Hjelmelandsheiane Around
A 5-day trek crossing steep valleys, open rocky plateaus, and viewpoints. The route partially follows the Driftavegen historic trail through Viglesdalen, featuring rock shelters, 7,000-year-old Stone Age settlements, and ancient pitfall traps used for reindeer hunting. Extensions are possible via Nilsebu and Eidavatn. This point-to-point hike requires a transportation plan (two cars or a pre-booked taxi).

5. Bleskestadmoen – Jonstølen – Stranddalen
A long-weekend route through Suldal showcasing diverse mountain architecture. Bleskestadmoen is located on a traditional summer farm valley and is the trekking association's oldest cabin. Jonstølen is a modern self-service cabin, while Stranddalen offers serviced accommodation. The route is point-to-point and requires parking a vehicle at Kvilldal before starting at Bleskestad, or coordinating a local taxi.
