THE DETOUR is a 230 km long adventure that takes you from Lillehammer in the east to the Sognefjord in the west. Along the way, you will enter some of the most spectacular mountain scenery we have in Norway. From forest and gentle mountain terrain, further over high peaks and down valleys to Norway's most famous waterfall; Vettisfossen.
The Jotunheim Trail is a long hike that goes from Oslo to Gjendesheim in Jotunheimen. On the way, you pass through varied nature – from forests and hilly landscapes to mountainous terrain – and several DNT cabins along the way. The trail is well suited for those who want to go for a longer hike in stages or who dream of a continuous long trip to the mountains.
DNT member associations organize a good number of overnight trips with a tour leader in the area. This is a great way to meet new people, experience new nature and get to know DNT from the inside. Examples of trips and arrangements in our local area are the triangle, Jotunheimstien, Omveien, trips with the Children's Hiking Association and beginner trips in mountain terrain. Public cabins
Gausdal Mountain Board has many public cabins in the area that can be used for accommodation or be a nice sub-destination for the day's packed lunch. Read more on the website of Gausdal Mountain Board.
Kittilbu Utmarksmuseum
A small, but incredibly nice museum that, among other things, conveys the story of how people, all the way back to the Stone Age, used the outback in Gausdal Vestfjell. Here you can also smoke the fish (for free) you have caught yourself! Read more on the Randsfjord Museum's website.
The tourist office in Gausdal can be found at Aulestad; the home of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson from 1875 to 1910.
