Why not head to a lighthouse? At these three locations, you can spend the night surrounded by the mighty forces of nature. It’s an experience you won't soon forget.
Lyngør Lighthouse
STUNNING: At Lyngør, you can truly experience the best of the Norwegian coast.
Lyngør lighthouse is located on Kjeholmen, just northeast of the car-free island village of Lyngør. Known for its iconic white wooden houses, Lyngør was named Europe's best-preserved village in 1991.
Enjoy peaceful evenings as the sun dips below the horizon, and return home recharged by the fresh sea air. A stay here is truly a fantastic experience.
Skongenes Lighthouse
If you’ve been dreaming of a holiday with "wind in your hair," Skongenes lighthouse is the place for you. Located at Stad in Northwest Norway, an area famous for its weather, you can stay in the original lighthouse keeper's house. Explore the surrounding cliffs, enjoy the courtyard, and discover the many coastal trails.
At low tide, the shoreline becomes a playground for discovery, where you can find everything from sea anemones to vibrant birdlife.
Book your stay in advance
If you are planning a trip along the coast, please note that most coastal cabins must be booked in advance.
This applies to coastal cabins, but also to many popular unserviced cabins located in the forests close to urban areas. Because these cabins are easily accessible from where people live, they fill up quickly, especially on weekends.
How to Book:
You can easily plan your stay and reserve your beds online. For a complete step-by-step guide on how the system works, visit the DNT Cabin Booking Information Page.
Runde Lighthouse
SUMMER VIBES: Runde Lighthouse is a wonderful place to stay, whatever the weather.
Runde lighthouse is situated at Kvalneset, on the northwestern tip of the famous bird island of Runde. The island is home to around 500,000 birds, and the historic lighthouse buildings are protected cultural heritage sites.
This is a self-catering cabin with 24 beds. After preparing a meal using supplies from the "proviant" (food store), you can sit back and watch the elements. Whether it’s basking in the sun or watching a storm roll in, Runde is always an exciting place to be.
