Conditions for participation in trips and activities organized by DNT
These terms and conditions apply to trips/activities arranged by DNT's member associations and local teams. Some trips/activities are considered package tours under the Package Travel Act. For such cases, there are certain special provisions in section 13.
English: Terms and Conditions
1. The Agreement
The agreement between the participant and the organizer consists of the trip and activity description, other information provided by the organizer and these terms and conditions. In some cases, the organizer may have special terms and conditions that appear in the tour description, in which case these will take precedence over these conditions.
The agreement is binding when the participant receives a confirmation from the organizer that the registration has been received and that the participant has been given a place on the trip/activity.
The agreement gives the participant the right to participate in the trip/activity in question, as described in the activity description of the organizer, and if they meet the requirements set for skills and equipment.
2. Obligations of the Promoter
- The organizer must ensure that the trip/activity is carried out as agreed.
- The organizer shall do what is possible to prevent the participant from being injured as a result of changes in the trip/activity that must be done due to unforeseen circumstances.
- The organizer cannot change the agreement or the tour/activity's content to the disadvantage of the participant, unless reservations have been made, and this is stated in the agreement. In such a case, the participant must be notified as soon as possible.
- The organiser is obliged to comply with its duty to provide assistance to participants in difficulties pursuant to the Package Travel Act.
3. Obligations of the Participant
- The participant is obliged to familiarize themselves with the terms and conditions and any conditions that the organizer has provided on the website or communicated in any other way.
- The participant must read the relevant activity program carefully, and make sure that he/she is able to participate without risk or inconvenience to himself or others.
- If the participant's health condition is not good, the participant must consult a doctor prior to the trip/activity. The participant must provide the organizer with information about medical conditions that may affect the implementation of the trip/event and other conditions that he/she should understand are of significant importance for the event.
- If someone is booking on behalf of others, they must provide correct and relevant information about these participants and make sure that the participants can follow the terms and conditions that apply to the trip/activity.
- The participant may be refused to participate in all or part of the trip/activity if the tour leader concludes that participation may entail a safety risk for the participant or other participants, for example due to the participant's health conditions, physical condition or inadequate equipment.
- The participant is obliged to follow the safety instructions given by the tour leader.
- The participant must comply with the instructions given by the organizer regarding time and place for attendance, etc.
- The participant must comply with the rules of conduct that apply at any accommodation or similar
- The participant is responsible for any additional expenses incurred as a result of cancelling the tour/activity.
- The participant is obliged to check that any tickets and travel documents are in accordance with the booking.
- Adults who are registered for a trip/activity together with children under the age of 18 must ensure that the children fulfill the participants' duties as mentioned above, and must at all times supervise the children and ensure their safety.
If the participant has to cancel the trip/activity as a result of violation of the rules above, the organizer is not responsible for any additional expenses that the participant incurs in such a situation, and no refund of the amount paid for the trip/event will be given.
The participant may be held liable for damage caused to the organizer by gross violation of the rules above.
4. Liability and risk
The organizer makes arrangements for all activities to take place safely and responsibly. However, all traffic in nature is associated with a certain risk. Participation in the tour or activity in question is therefore at the participant's own risk.
The organizer does not accept responsibility for the participants' actions and omissions on the trip or activity in question, and is therefore not responsible for any loss or damage that occurs.
Since participation takes place at the participant's own risk, the participant should have travel and accident insurance with an insurance company.
5. Right to assign participation
The participant has the right to transfer participation in the trip/activity to another person who meets the conditions for participating in the trip/activity in question. The condition is that the organizer is notified of the transfer within a reasonable time in advance of the trip/event. The organizer may charge a NOK 300 administration fee.
6. Changes
The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the program as a result of weather and driving conditions, changes in timetables, changed opening hours for accommodations or other special circumstances that make it difficult to carry out the trip as planned.
The organizer tries as much as possible to carry out the event according to the program. If this is not possible, the organizer has the right to make changes that, if possible, must be notified to the participants before departure. The tour leader informs the participants about changes along the way. Significant changes that are notified before departure entitle you to cancellation free of charge. In the event of changes along the way, participants are not entitled to a refund. Exceptions can be made if the number of overnight stays is not as stated.
7. Payment
For trips/activities with payment, the organizer may require payment of a deposit or payment of the full participation fee upon registration.
The organizer can cancel the agreement if payment/deposit is not in the organizer's account two days after the due date.
8. Price
The total price per person is stated on the relevant activity page of the organizer. The price includes what is described in the relevant tour's program on the activity page, and includes taxes and any additional fees and charges. Other benefits are not included in the price, and may need to be purchased in addition.
The price can be changed if there are changes in public taxes and fees, exchange rate changes or ticket prices (transport costs) that will make it more expensive for the organizer to run the tour. Correspondingly, the participant will be able to demand a price reduction if corresponding changes are made in the participant's favour.
In the event of a price increase, the participant must be given a reason and a calculation for the increase. Notice of price increase must be given to the participant no later than 20 days before the trip begins.
Price increase of more than 8% gives the participant the right to cancel the purchase.
9. Cancellation for a fee
The participant has the right to cancel the tour/activity. The following rules apply in the event of cancellation:
- In case of cancellation 15 days or more before departure, the entire participation fee will be refunded with the exception of an administration fee of NOK. NOK 300 per order.
- This fee also applies to changes to the booking.
- If the cost of the activity is equal to or lower than the administration fee, no refund will be given.
- The administration fee does not apply to tours/activities that are free of charge. DNT still wants to deregister.
- In case of later cancellation, the following applies:
- 14-8 days before departure: 50% of the participation fee will be refunded, however, so that amounts of less than kr. 300 non-refundable.
- 7-0 days before departure or in case of no-show: No participation fee will be refunded.
Cancellations must be made in writing by e-mail to the organizer, see contact details under item 15.
10. Cancellation in case of too few participants
The organizer can cancel the trip/activity if the number of places or the occupancy rate that the organizer has set as a condition for discontinuing the trip/activity is not sold. In the event of cancellation, the organizer is obliged, if possible, to notify the participants:
- No later than 20 days before the start date for trips/activities that last more than 6 days.
- No later than 7 days before the start date for trips/activities that last between 2 and 6 days.
- No later than 48 hours before the start date for trips lasting less than 2 days.
Written notification of cancellation must be received by the participant no later than by the deadline.
In case of cancellation due to too few participants, the entire amount paid will be refunded as soon as possible. Beyond this, the participant is not entitled to compensation.
11. Complaints
The participant can cancel the agreement before the trip/activity starts if it is clear that the trip/activity has significant deficiencies. The same applies if the terms of the agreement are changed to a significant disadvantage for the participant. In such cases, the participant must notify the organizer of the cancellation within a reasonable time. In the event of cancellation, the participant is entitled to a refund of the amount paid and, for package travel, any compensation pursuant to the Package Travel Act.
The tour has a defect if the travel services that make up the tour are deficient and the participant is not at fault for this. The participant is obliged to complain about defects without undue delay. Defects entitle the participant to claim remedies, alternative services, price reductions, cancellation and compensation in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws.
12. Personal data
The organizer processes personal data such as name, e-mail address and telephone number in connection with registration and participation in the event. Personal data about the participant may be shared with partners of the supplier, such as transport companies or accommodation, if necessary.
The organizer will process contact information about the participant to send the evaluation form after the trip with the purpose of improving the offer.
On the trip/activities organized by DNT's member associations, photos may be taken of the participants. Such images may be used in DNT's and member associations' publications, their own websites or in other media. If the participant does not want to be photographed, he or she must notify the relevant tour leader.
13. Special provisions concerning package travel
13.1 Package tours
"Package tours" means trips that are considered package tours under the Package Travel Act, and which are therefore subject to the Package Travel Act.
Package tours are trips that last more than 24 hours and that include payment for at least 2 of these travel services:
- Tour with tour leader/guide
- Accommodation with accommodation in a tourist cabin, hotel or similar
- Passenger transport, e.g. by bus or boat
- Vehicle rental
For other trips/events, the Package Travel Act and the provisions of the terms and conditions on package tours do not apply.
13.2 Standard information on package travel
The combination of travel services offered is a package tour under the Package Travel Act. The participant is therefore covered by all the rights that apply to package travel. The organiser is fully responsible for ensuring that the package travel as a whole is carried out correctly.
The organiser also has a statutory travel guarantee that ensures the repayment of the participant's payments in the event of the organiser's insolvency. If transport is included in the package tour, the travel guarantee also covers repatriation. More information about key rights under the Package Travel Act can be found here.
14. Cancellation
In the event of unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances that mean that the trip/activity cannot be carried out, DNT has the right to terminate the agreement without liability for damages, for example in the event of natural disasters, extreme weather, pandemics or the like. The examples are not inexhaustible."
15. Contact information of the Promoter
The organizer's name, address, telephone number and e-mail address are stated in the tour description for the individual event.
