How to book a DNT cabin?

The DNT Cabin Booking portal (DNT Hyttebestilling) allows you to book almost all of DNT’s cabins across Norway in one place. This gives you a quick and easy overview of which cabins are available for your chosen dates.

Accommodation at DNT cabins can be booked via our Hyttebestilling (Cabin Booking) page. The DNT Cabin booking page allows you to book almost all of DNT’s cabins across the country, giving you a quick and easy overview of which locations are available for your chosen dates.

You can also find booking options and opening dates for each specific cabin on UT.no. Simply look for the "Book accommodation" button on the cabin’s page.

Step-by-step booking guide:

  1. Visit the portal: Go to https://hyttebestilling.dnt.no/
  2. Search: Enter the cabin name, a specific area, municipality, or county in the search field.
  3. Dates and Guests: Enter your desired dates and the number of people in your party.
  4. Selecting a cabin: * If you searched for a specific cabin, you will go straight to its booking page.
If you searched for an area, a map will appear showing all available cabins.
  5. Understanding the Map Symbols:
Red icons: The cabin has enough space for your entire group on the chosen dates.
Grey icons: The cabin is either fully booked, closed, or cannot accommodate your entire group.
You will also see symbols indicating whether the cabin is Staffed, Self-service, or No-service.
  6. Review and Book: Click on a cabin to see a summary, then click "Book accommodation".
  7. Choose your beds/rooms: Depending on the cabin, you may book individual beds, specific rooms, or the entire cabin.
  8. For individual beds: Add them to your cart one by one until you have reached the number of people in your party.
Other options: You can also add extras like dog cages (where applicable) to your cart.
  9. Proceed to Checkout: Review your cart and click "Proceed to order."
  10. Select Pricing: Choose the correct price category for each guest based on their age and DNT membership status.
  11. Finalize and Pay: * Click "Complete booking" and log in by entering your phone number or email to receive a one-time verification code.
  12. Enter your personal details as the booker and follow the steps to pay securely via credit card.
  13. Confirmation: Once payment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email and receipt. Please bring a digital or printed copy of this with you on your trip.

Note: If you wish to book multiple cabins for a multi-day trek, you must repeat this process for each individual cabin.

Questions and answers about cabin booking in DNT

What is the link to the cabin booking page?

The direct link to the booking portal is: https://hyttebestilling.dnt.no/

Quick Tips for Using the Portal:

  • Language: The site is available in both Norwegian and English.
  • Search Options: You can search by the specific cabin name, or broader areas like municipalities (kommune) or mountain ranges (e.g., Jotunheimen).
  • Member Pricing: Remember to have your membership number ready to unlock discounted rates during the checkout process.

Why should I book in advance?

Booking a bed in advance is highly popular, especially for families with children who want the peace of mind that comes with a guaranteed stay. We want to offer our guests the certainty that a bed is waiting for them at the end of the day.

While there are usually available beds at our cabins, space can be limited at the most popular locations, particularly during the high season. However, most mountain cabins also reserve a number of beds for drop-in guests that cannot be pre-booked.

Can I pre-book all DNT cabins through the booking system?

Most DNT cabins can be pre-booked via our online booking solution. However, there are still a few cabins that are not yet listed. We are continuously adding more locations to the system.

If you cannot find the specific cabin you are looking for in the booking portal, please search for it on UT.no for more information. As of early 2026, over 530 cabins are available for online booking.

Do I have to be a DNT member to stay at a cabin?

At least one person in your group must be a DNT member to access the DNT key. While the rest of the party doesn't have to be members, we strongly recommend membership for everyone. Here is why:

  • Member Discounts: While everyone is welcome, DNT members pay a significantly lower price for overnight stays. For many, the membership pays for itself after just a couple of nights.

Most self-service and no-service cabins are locked with the standard DNT cabin key. To borrow or purchase this key, at least one person in your party must be a DNT member.

Check UT.no: Always check the specific cabin’s page on UT.no before you leave to see how it is locked and what type of service it offers.

Where can I find my membership number?

You can log in to "My Page" and see your membership status here, or go here to download your membership certificate to your phone.

Can I book multiple cabins in a single order (e.g., for a cabin-to-cabin trek)?

Currently, you must complete the booking and payment for one cabin before proceeding to the next. However, we are actively working on a seamless solution for booking entire cabin-to-cabin itineraries in one go. We hope to have this feature available soon to make planning your multi-day treks even easier.

What does it mean that a cabin "Not available on selected dates"?

There are a few reasons why a cabin might show as unavailable. Here are the most common:

  • Fully booked: The most frequent reason is that all reservable beds are already taken for your chosen dates.
  • Large groups: The cabin may have some space, but not enough for your entire party. For example, if there are only 4 beds left and you are a group of 5, the system will show the cabin as unavailable for your search.
  • Seasonal closures: The cabin might be closed during your desired period. You can check specific opening hours and seasonal dates directly in the booking portal.

How do you pay in this solution?

You pay online with a payment card. Some cabins have also arranged for payment via Vipps.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

This depends on which cabin you have questions about. Do you have questions about self- and no-serve cabins, you must contact the association that owns the cabin. Is there a staffed cabin If this is the case, you must contact the host at the cabin.

On each individual cabin page in the solution there is contact information for that cabin (email and phone number).

I am experiencing a technical issue. How can I provide feedback?

If you encounter any problems while using the booking system, we would appreciate your feedback so we can improve the service.

  • Feedback Button: On the bottom right corner of the booking page (desktop version), you will find a "Feedback" button. Please describe the issue there, and our team will look into it as soon as possible.
  • Mobile Users: Please note that the feedback button is currently not available on mobile devices. If you are using a phone, you will need to log in via a PC to use this feature.
  • Email Support: You can also send feedback or report issues directly to us at hyttebooking@dnt.no

Do I have to book in advance?

While we recommend booking in advance to guarantee a bed, you can still hike the "old-fashioned way." Most DNT cabins set aside a portion of their beds for guests who arrive without a reservation.

  • Drop-in beds: These are reserved for guests who arrive on the spot and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find the specific number of drop-in beds for each location on the cabin's individual page.
  • Space guarantee: DNT has a long-standing tradition of never turning anyone away. Most cabins offer a "space guarantee," meaning we will find a place for everyone to sleep, even if it’s on a mattress on the floor in a common area. Note that some local variations may occur.
  • Opening hours: Always check UT.no for current opening hours and specific information about the cabin you plan to visit before starting your trip.

How to cancel?

By logging in to the cabin booking solution you can find all your bookings (click on your profile ).

Here you can cancel your stays. It is also possible to cancel parts of your order. For example, if you have ordered for four persons , and only three can participate.

Refunds are made according to the current cancellation policy. The basic rule for self- and no-serve cabins in DNT is that if you cancel more than five days before arrival, you will get your money back, but there are some exceptions to the rule. For staffed cabins, the basic rule is 8 days before arrival.

It will be possible to cancel even after the refund deadline has passed. And even if you do not receive a refund, we would greatly appreciate it if you cancel if you cannot use your stay. This will give others the opportunity to use the cabin instead.

Unfortunately, there are some cabins that do not have self-service cancellation. You will find out this when you are in to cancel. In these cases you must contact the cabin.

How can I view my bookings?

There are two ways to keep track of your reservations:

  1. Email Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation email for every order you complete. We recommend saving these or keeping them available on your phone for your trip.
  2. User Profile: You can access your full booking history directly in the portal. Simply log in by clicking the "person" icon (user profile) in the top right corner
