Packing list day trip winter

When packing for day trips in winter, you first need to think about where and when you are going on a trip. There are big differences between whether you are going for a short training trip in the lowlands on machine-prepared cross-country skis or a six-hour trip far into the high mountains. Either way, the weather can change quickly, and accidents can happen. Everyone must both dress and pack their backpack adapted to the trip and the conditions.

What you should bring

Here you can see DNT's list of things you should have in your backpack on day trips. This is in addition to the winter clothes you wear on your body when you go hiking, and any skis/snowshoes/footwear.

  • Windproof jacket/ trousers
  • Extra wool sweater
  • Extra hat/ mittens
  • Simple first aid kit, incl. sports tape + a small knife
  • Hot drinks + food on longer trips
  • Sunglasses/ Alpine goggles
  • map/ mobile phone  seat pad/ sleeping pad
  • ski wax, if you ski and don't have skin skis

In the high mountains, you must also bring:

  • a heated jacket / sweater
  • compass
  • Headlamp
  • Windsack, shovel, probe (at least one person in the group)

Do you need clothes and equipment for the trip? In DNT's online store, you can buy hiking equipment and maps at a member price.
