These Staffed DNT Cabins Are Open for the Autumn Holidays

Dreaming of a cooked dinner and a warm fireside lounge after a long day in the autumn mountains? An autumn holiday at one of these serviced cabins might be just what you need. Here is an overview of the staffed cabins open during week 40 and/or week 41.

As a DNT member, you have access to over 600 cabins. The serviced cabins open for the autumn holiday are popular both as day-trip destinations and for overnight stays, and there is still good availability.

Staying at a fixed base cabin and taking day trips from there is a flexible, enjoyable option, whether traveling alone, with friends, or with family. Most steffed DNT cabins close by the second weekend of September. Below is a list of all serviced cabins remaining open during weeks 40 and/or 41.

Gjendesheim

Beautifully situated by Lake Gjende, Gjendesheim is an ideal starting point for hiking the classic Besseggen ridge. Monday through Thursday in autumn holiday week 40, activity leaders for children host guided walks and outdoor activities.

Haukeliseter also features an outdoor sauna and hot tub with panoramic views.

Finsehytta lies directly between Hardangervidda and Skarvheimen, offering excellent hiking opportunities in all directions. Situated between Hardangerjøkulen glacier and Hallingskarvet, right by the train station. Serviced until October 4; from October 5, the self-service cabin Brebua is open.

Fondsbu

Fondsbu sits in the southern part of Jotunheimen on the shores of Lake Bygdin at Eidsbugarden. Snøheim

Snøheim sits at the foot of Snøhetta. Easily accessible by train to Hjerkinn followed by a local shuttle bus straight to the cabin door. The summit hike to Snøhetta makes a fine day trip from the cabin for older children (ages 10–12 and up). Open until October 4.
