
By train or bus to Hardangervidda
Hardangervidda is Northern Europe's largest high mountain plateau and is a fantastic area for hiking, both summer and winter. It is easy to get to the mountains by public transport. You can take the train to Finse in the north, bus to Rjukan in the east and bus to Haukeliseter in the south.
Train to Finse
Take the Bergen Railway to Finse and spend the night at Finsehytta. The next morning, Hardangervidda is at your feet. Because here many nice trips south on Hardangervidda start. Both summer and winter. You can also take the train to Hallingskeid and spend the night at the self-service cabin Hallingskeid.

Bus to Haukeliseter
Several daily bus departures between Oslo and Haugesund, with a stop at Haukeliseter Fjellstue. From here, the trip starts north on Hardangervidda.

Bus to Rjukan
Several daily bus departures from Oslo to Rjukan. Bus change at Notodden. Find timetables and information about tickets on entur.no
From Rjukan, you can take the Krossobanen up to the start of the hike on Hardangervidda.
Take the bus to Hydroparken bus stop if you are going to take the Krossobanen, from here it is about 1.5 km to walk to Krossobanen.
Bus over Highway 7 in the summer
During the summer season, there is a bus between Geilo and Eidfjord, it runs Highway 7 which goes over Hardangervidda. Then you can get to Fagerheim, which is the start of the trip to Krækkja. And you can get to Dyranut where you can start your trip to Sandhaug. You can also take the bus to the stop Garen at Øvre Eidfjord and walk towards Hadlaskard. Search bus route no. 991 in Skyss.no
