What is a guided tour with DNT?
DNT offers activities, courses, guided hikes and ski tours in the mountains throughout the year
Guided tours with DNT offer a social, organized, and safe way to explore the outdoors. Our group treks allow you to experience your dream hikes while making new friends and enjoying spectacular nature.
Please note: While most of our tours are conducted in Norwegian, we offer a selection of trips suitable for international visitors. Contact DNT to find out more about our guided hikes and language options.
Our Activity Calendar features hiking programs from all our local member associations.
Social and Organized
Many people join our guided tours specifically for the social aspect. You will meet others who share the same passion for the outdoors. Everything is arranged for you, making it easy to get to know your fellow hikers, whether as acquaintances for the duration of the trip or as future hiking partners.
Safe with Experienced Guides
Most trips are led by DNT members with extensive experience who have completed DNT's qualifying courses. Our guides are volunteers who lead groups because they love nature and enjoy sharing the experience with others. While they are not "professional" guides by trade, they have solid expertise in mountain safety and local geography.
Participation at Your Own Risk
DNT’s member associations base all activities on the principle that participants are responsible for their own safety. Participation is at your own risk. However, safety is always our priority, ensured through our guides' expertise and by following traditional Norwegian outdoor safety standards.
Choose a Trip According to Your Ability
To ensure a positive experience, it is vital to choose a trip that matches your physical fitness. A trip that is too demanding can be ruined by heavy climbs and long days. Please do not underestimate the difficulty level. If you are unsure, contact the organizing association or the guide in advance.the level of difficulty when choosing a trip
Necessary Clothing and Equipment
Participants must bring appropriate clothing and equipment for the terrain and weather, unless otherwise specified. We also recommend bringing a map and compass.
Insurance
All participants must arrange their own personal travel and accident insurance. This also applies to children. DNT does not accept liability for financial consequences resulting from accidents or damages occurring during our activities.
Difficulty Levels and Target Groups
Most activities are marked with a difficulty rating and a target group. These are general guidelines; for example, a summit trip can be short but still physically demanding.
Our target groups include:
Adults: Tours, courses, and events for adults.
Children (0–12 years): Trips and events for families, with or without parents.
Youth (13–26 years): Active trips and social events for young people.
Seniors (60+): Tours specially adapted for older hikers.
Mountain Sports: High-intensity activities like glacier hiking and climbing.
