What is a guided tours with DNT?

Guided tours are a social, facilitated and safe way to get out. Many people dream of going for a longer hike in the mountains, but many are unsure if they dare to set off on their own. Then a Guided tour with DNT is the solution.

Social and facilitated

Many people participate in Guided tours precisely because it is social, and you meet others with the same interests, especially with the same joy and passion for outdoor life. On Guided tours, everything is often arranged, and it is easy to get to know each other. An acquaintance maybe only for the days you spend together on a trip or for later trips.

Safe with tour guides

Most of the trips are led by DNT members who have long and solid experience and who have completed DNT's tour leader course or equivalent. They have good experience from trips to the mountains and usually know the area from previous trips. The staff of tour leaders are not professional in the sense that they lead groups in the mountains as a profession. They go as a tour leader on a voluntary basis because they enjoy traveling in nature and taking others on their experiences.

Participation at your own risk

DNT's member associations primarily base all Guided tours and activities on the fact that the participants themselves are responsible for their own safety and that all participation takes place at their own risk. In addition, safety is ensured through the tour leaders' expertise, and that the activities are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with traditional Norwegian outdoor life.

Accident prevention work has long been a high priority for DNT's member associations, and the focus on safety during Guided tours and activities has resulted in there being few accidents in DNT's activities.

Check special conditions

Before you decide on a trip, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions for participation in the trip. These can be found when registering for the trip or on the website of the association/hiking team that organizes the trip.

Choose your trip according to your ability

It should be fun to join a group trip, but if you have chosen a trip that is too demanding, the joy of hiking and the good mountain experience can be ruined by too heavy climbs and too long daily stages. It is therefore important that you do not underestimate the level of difficulty when choosing a trip. If you are unsure whether you will be able to join the trip, you should contact the tour leader or the association/tour team that organizes the trip in advance.

Bring the necessary clothing and equipment

As a participant, you must make sure to bring the necessary clothing/equipment that is suitable for the trip, unless otherwise specified. Also bring a map and compass.

Remember insurance

Tour participants must arrange their own personal travel and accident insurance. This also applies to children. DNT does not accept responsibility for the financial consequences of possible accidents/damages that may occur during the running of the trips/activities.

How difficult are the trips?

Most of the Guided tours and activities are marked with both who the trip is suitable for and how demanding it is. Read more about the different levels of our Guided tours and activities

Please note that these are only general gradings, which may not be suitable for all tours and activities. A summit trip, for example, can be just a day trip, but graded as demanding. Therefore, contact the tour leader or the association/tour team that organizes the trip for more detailed information.

Who is the trip suitable for?

There are Guided tours for everyone. Some are intended for adults, some for children, others for seniors, while some tours and events are open to everyone. We have divided our trips according to these target groups:
