Cabins, Trails and Activities

Our cabins, trails and activities are the heart of DNT. Across Norway, volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that more people have the opportunity to get outdoors and experience nature.

We want to make it easy for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors through hiking, skiing, and activities in both forests and mountains. We achieve this by marking and maintaining trails, operating cabins, organizing group trips, and advocating for the protection of outdoor recreational areas.

Our Network of Cabins (DNT-hyttene)

DNT has around 600 cabins throughout Norway. Small and large cabins, in the mountains, in the woods, by and in urban areas. Some cabins are easy to get to, while others are located in places you really have to yourself. Welcome to use the cabin opportunities!

DNT Routes and Marked Trails

DNT maintains over 23,000 kilometers of marked summer trails nationwide, alongside 6,400 kilometers of marked winter tracks in Southern Norway. These trails guide you safely between our cabins and frequently lead to the most breathtaking viewpoints. Additionally, they help funnel foot traffic, allowing local vegetation and wildlife to thrive undisturbed off the beaten path.

Organized Trips, Courses, and Activities

DNT organizes a wide range of trips, courses, and activities all year round. We offer something for every age group, interest, and skill level—including stroller walks, map and compass navigation courses, senior hikes, family activity days, weekly local forest walks, peak baggers' trips, kayaking courses, youth excursions, and much more.

Volunteering

Volunteer work, known in Norway as dugnad, is the very backbone of DNT. Every year, thousands of volunteer hours are spent marking trails, building bridges and boardwalks (klopper), maintaining cabins, stocking supplies, and organizing trips and courses. Our local clubs and associations are driven by passionate individuals who love getting people outdoors. We are incredibly proud of everyone who dedicates their time to opening up the joys of nature for others.
