How to get to Skarveheimen by train or bus

If you are going on a trip in Skarveheimen, you have many options for choosing public transport. By train from Finse in the south and by bus from Hemsedalsvegen or Tyinkrysset in the north, it is easy to get to and from the mountain hike. Here you will find an overview of the most accessible starting points for hiking and skiing.

Train to Finse

Take the Bergen Railway to Finse station and feel free to stay overnight at Finsehytta. The next day, the trip starts north and into Skarvheimen, towards Geiterygghytta. Check train schedules and buy tickets on vy.no

Bus to Hemsedalsvegen

The self-service DNT cabin Skarvheim is located close to Breistølen mountain lodge, right by Hemsedalsvegen. From here, the trip goes into Skarvheimen, towards Bjordalsbu and on to Iungsdalshytta. You can also head north towards Sulebu and Tyin.

There is a daily express bus, VY170, between Oslo and Førde. Search for bus times for the stop Breistøl. Find bus times for entur.no

Bus to Tyinkrysset

From Tyinkrysset, the trip goes south and into Skarvheimen. The nearest cabin is the self-service cabin Sulebu. From Tyinkrysset you can also take the bus on to Tyin and Fondsbu. There are daily express buses east-west, to/from Tyinkrysset.

Bus to Geiteryggtunnellen in the summer

In the summer, Geiterygghytta is easily accessible by train. There is a bus daily to and from Geiteryggen, which corresponds with the morning train between Oslo and Bergen. Take the train to Ål station, from there bus 850 with disembarkation Geiteryggen Øst. Find bus routes on skyss.no
