Why become a volunteer in DNT?
Volunteering with DNT offers much more than practical tasks. It provides a sense of belonging, meaningful experiences, and the opportunity to make a real difference.
Many of our volunteers say that the best part of volunteering is the social community and the satisfaction of helping more people enjoy nature. As a volunteer, you can meet new friends, learn new skills, and contribute to something larger than yourself.
Who can become a volunteer in DNT?
Anyone with an interest in the outdoors and a desire to contribute can become a volunteer with DNT. Whether you prefer the mountains, forests, coastline, or local community, there are opportunities to get involved.
We offer a wide range of volunteer roles that can be adapted to your interests, skills, and availability. Opportunities vary between associations and seasons, but there is always a need for enthusiastic people who want to help.
Find a task for you
The most popular and common volunteer jobs are marking and cairning trails, maintenance of the cabins, contributing during events and being a tour leader on joint trips. There is also a need for efforts in boards, committees and committees.
Cabin inspection
Volunteers make sure that everything is in order at the cabins and that it has all the equipment it needs to house visitors and guests.

Trail and route work
Volunteers make sure to clean and mark our large trail network and develop new trails if needed. Route volunteers give you unique hiking experiences in the mountains and in the forest, and you get training in how to do this, which strengthens your knowledge of safety in nature.

Building and maintaining trail infrastructure
In the grid we have many bridges that require regular maintenance. Several new bridges are also built and deployed annually. Throughout the year, there are several permanent environments that design and prepare the bridge work. During the summer season, a number of volunteer efforts are arranged to maintain, improve or deploy new bridges. In the bridge-building community, there are many volunteers with different professional expertise, but also many without any special experience and expertise from before.

The bridge over Stor-Myldinge was the first of eight bridges that were built in 2020 by DNT Oslo and Omegn without the use of helicopters. It was built in Oslo, transported to Folldal and carried into the mountains by our bridge builders' guild from DNT Oslo, young people from Bydel St. Hanshaugen and volunteers from Folldal Turlag.
Cabin work
The volunteer trips are important for the maintenance of the cabins. As a volunteer, you will be given varied tasks that offer exciting challenges in pleasant company.
