Why you should become a member of DNT
Do you enjoy hiking and exploring the norwegian nature, but unsure if you should become a DNT member? We can give you many reasons to join DNT, here are 13 of them.
Does your packed lunch taste better out on the mountain plateau? Does your morning coffee give you an extra boost when enjoyed from a 2,000-metre summit? Or do you simply love short walks in the forest behind your home?
A DNT membership gives you great benefits, no matter who you are. It doesn’t cost much to become rich in experiences.
We can give you many reasons to join DNT, here are 13 of them:
For those who like to follow the red T's

What would a mountain hike be without the iconic red T markings?
They guide you safely from cabin to cabin, lead you to breathtaking viewpoints, and give you unforgettable nature experiences — year after year.
Since 1868, DNT has worked to make outdoor life simple and accessible. Today, over one million red T’s mark more than 23,000 kilometres of trails across Norway. They not only guide you safely but also help protect nature by keeping hikers on designated paths.
Did you know that marked trails are the membership benefit most valued by our members?
Become a member
As a DNT member, you contribute to the marking of 31,000 km of marked trails and the maintenance of over 600 cabins so that more people get out into outdoor life.
For those who support volunteers

Volunteering is deeply rooted in Norwegian culture, and it is essential to DNT.
Without the incredible efforts of volunteers, Norway’s mountain landscape would look very different. There would be no marked trails, cabins would gradually fall into disrepair, and local hiking groups would disappear.
Volunteers across the country help create unforgettable nature experiences, but this work also requires funding. Trails need marking, bridges and boardwalks must be built, and cabins require maintenance.
As a DNT member, you support this vital volunteer work and help more people enjoy the outdoors.
For those who love, but sleeping indoors

For many, the highlight of a long hike is the cabin waiting at the end.
There’s nothing like stepping inside, feeling the warmth from the fireplace, taking off your boots, and enjoying a good meal.
As a DNT member, you get discounts on accommodation and food at cabins across Norway. Around 48 of the 600 cabins are staffed, offering meals and hosts. Children and youth receive discounted rates.
Members can also get a DNT key for self-service and no-service cabins. At self-service cabins, you’ll find food supplies, allowing you to pack lighter.
"Going to the cabin" never has to be the same again, because you can always travel to a new cabin, every single time!
For families who want to explore together

Do you want to pass on the joy of outdoor life to your children?
Walking along a trail, reaching a summit, listening to birds, and exploring nature together creates lasting memories. Children also gain confidence by carrying their own backpack and discovering the outdoors.
Barnas Turlag (DNT’s Children’s Hiking Programme) offers a welcoming community where families can enjoy trips together and meet others in their local area.
With DNT, your family can stay in cozy cabins, explore marked trails, and create magical moments together.
For those who want to protect our nature, now and in the future

Norway is blessed with stunning landscapes: valleys, mountains, forests, waterfalls, and vast open plateaus.
But nature is vulnerable.
In 1900, about half of Norway was untouched wilderness. Today, only around 12% remains.
Nature is often sacrificed for development. If we want future generations to enjoy the same experiences, we must protect what remains.
DNT is a strong voice for nature. By becoming a member, you support our work to preserve Norway’s natural heritage.

For those who want to contribute to 31,000 km of T-marked trails and 600 cabins

As a member of DNT, you not only get access to and discounts on over 600 cabins.
- You also help ensure that the cabins are taken care of and receive supplies of food and fuel.
- You contribute to paint coats, to the roof being repaired, and to food stocks being replenished.
- You facilitate that 31,000 kilometers of trails are maintained and marked. A facilitation of nature experiences like this is completely unique in a world context, and it would not have been possible without our members.
Thank you very much!
