How your commitment can live on through a legacy gift
Do you have a cause that matters deeply to you? By including a gift to a charity or nonprofit organisation in your will, you can continue making a positive impact long after you are gone.
More and more people are choosing to leave a legacy gift to one or more organisations in their will. Yet many are still unaware that this is an option.
A legacy gift can help support causes that have been important to you throughout your life and ensure that your values continue to make a difference for future generations.
A lasting impact
Whether large or small, legacy gifts play an important role in helping nonprofit organisations carry out their work. For some organisations, these gifts are a vital source of funding that enables them to plan for the future, expand their activities, and support people, nature, culture, research, or humanitarian causes.
“Legacy gifts are an important part of the funding base for many organisations. Without them, a number of charities would have to significantly reduce both their ambitions and their activities,” says Rikke Solberg, Head of Communications at Fundraising Norway.
Shared commitment
The Good Will Initiative is a collaborative effort to raise awareness about inheritance and charitable bequests. The initiative is supported by 32 member organisations of Fundraising Norway.
While these organisations work for different causes, they share a common goal: to create positive change and contribute to a better future. Legacy gifts help make this work possible.
“Because legacy gifts play such an important role in improving society and supporting important causes, these organisations share a commitment to increasing awareness about the opportunity to leave a charitable gift in a will,” Solberg explains.
Great gratitude
People choose to leave legacy gifts for many different reasons. Some have lived modestly and saved carefully in order to support a cause they care about. Others first provide for family and loved ones, while also setting aside a portion of their estate for a favourite organisation.
Whatever the size of the gift, it is received with gratitude and respect.
“Regardless of the amount, organisations are deeply grateful for the trust placed in them. Every legacy gift helps them continue their work and create positive change for future generations,” says Rikke Solberg.
