Does your heart beat a little extra for an organization? By including a gift to this organization in your will, you can make a difference even after you have passed away.
It is becoming increasingly common to include a gift to one or more organizations in the will, but there are still many who are unaware of this possibility.
Vital gifts
Both small and large donations make an important difference for nonprofits. And in the ultimate consequence, your bequest can help save lives or give hope for future generations.
"Testamentary gifts are a very important part of the income base of several organizations. Without bequests, there are many organizations that would have had to put their ambitions and their activities on a completely different level," explains Rikke Solberg, Head of Communications at Fundraising Norway.
Shared commitment
The Good Testament is an initiative to raise awareness of inheritance and bequests to good causes, and 32 members of Fundraising Norway are behind the initiative. The organizations behind the inheritance campaign work for different causes, but common to them all is that they want to improve the world in one way or another.
"Because testamentary gifts play an important role in the work to improve the world, these organizations also share a common commitment to communicating the importance of testamentary gifts," according to Solberg.
Great gratitude
Some people who give testamentary gifts have lived sober and frugal lives precisely in order to be able to give a large testamentary gift. Still others have taken care of family and others they want to benefit in the will, and then set aside a small sum for their favorite organization.
"Regardless of the size of the donations, the organizations that receive them are grateful and humble to be allowed to manage funds for the good of the causes they work for," concludes Rikke Solberg.
