Grading of guided tours

Our guided tours differ in grade based on type of terrain and tour length / duration. When you are going to choose a tour, it is important to join a tour that is suitable to your physical abilitie

Our tour grading system is meant to give you an idea of the level of fitness and skiing or hiking experience required for each tour.

Grading of guided winter tours

Our grading scale takes into consideration both tour length and type of terrain.

Easy (Green)

Day tours from a cabin or easy skiing activity suitable for everyone. The length of the tour can usually be adjusted based on the skiing skills of the participants. Previous experience of mountain skiing with backpack is necessary. Terrain comparatively flat without major variation in altitude. Recommended for skiers with experience, but as the first mountain ski tour in Norway.

Medium (Blue)

Previous experience with high altitude mountain skiing is essential. Tours uphill and downhill for up to about 15 km a day.

Demanding (Red)

Several years of high altitude mountain skiing experience. Tours involve long climbs and steep downhills for up to 25 km a day. On some tours there may be steep downhills that require the ability to cope with slopes and traverses safely in variable snow conditions. If you are unsure about your downhill ability, check the details of the tour or ask for more information about the terrain.  

Advanced (Black)

These tours are especially for good skiers that have several years of mountain skiing experience, very good skiing skills, are very fit and have very good endurance. On some tours there may be steep downhills that require the ability to cope with slopes and traverses safely in variable snow conditions. If you are unsure about your downhill ability, check the details of the tour or ask for more information about the terrain.

General for all guided winter tour  - skiing is in unprepared trails

We highly recommend to undertake some training with your backpack to build up fitness before leaving home for your Norwegian mountain experience.

Grading of guided summer tours

Grading of our guided summer tours takes into consideration both tour length and type of terrain.

Length

Easy (Green)

Day tours from the lodge / cabin or easy day events for everyone. The tour length can usually be adjusted to the skill level of the participants.

Medium (Blue)

Day tours from lodge /cabin or day tour stages that are up to approximately 15 km.  Tours are suitable for those who are used hiking / skiing while carrying a backpack and are in normally good shape.

Demanding (Red)

Day tour stages are up to approximately 25 km. Tours are suitable for those with some mountain hiking / skiing experience and in good physical shape.

Advanced (Black)

Day tour stages are more than approximately 25 km. Tours are suitable for especially experience mountain hikers /skiers who are in very good physical shape.

Terrain

Easy (Green)

The tour is on relatively flat terrain. The planned route will mostly follow the waymarked route.

Medium (Blue)

The tour is in lightly varied terrain with smaller climbs and descends. The planned route will mostly follow the waymarked tracks.

Intermediate (Red)

The tour is in highly varied terrain with many climbs and descends. The planned route can be both on and off the waymarked tracks.

Advanced (Black)

The tour will for some parts be in very steep and uneven terrain. The planned route can be both on and can often be off the waymarked tracks.

We highly recommend to undertake some training with your backpack to build up fitness before leaving home for your Norwegian mountain experience.

General for all guided summer tours

The tour participants carry their own backpacks (weighing up to 8 kg). The tour will be in the outdoors all day. Average hiking speed is approximately 3 km per hour. Please read the tour descriptions carefully and study the area map before tour departure.
