Rondane - SAGA
Rondane is a magnificent mountain area. It is centrally located and is an important recreational area for large parts of southern Norway. It is divided into three marked mountain groups, all with peaks of over 2000 meters.
To the east is Rondvasshøgde with Storronden and Rondslottet, the highest of all, 2178 meters above sea level. Rondvatnet cuts like a deep channel in between these wild mountain sections. The third group, separated from Rondvasshøgde and Rondslottet by the deep Langglupdalen, is Høgronden, Midtronden and Digerronden in the northeast.
National park
The country's first national park was established in Rondane in 1962 and expanded to 963 km2 in 2003. At that time, the new Dovre National Park (289 km2) was also established in the north of the area. Together with new landscape conservation areas, these form a continuous protected area from Ringebufjellet to Hjerkinn. There is also a separate wild reindeer tribe here.
