Ringebufjellet - SAGA

The closer you get to Rondane, the higher the mountain peaks become. In Ringebufjellet there are several peaks over 1400 m. But also in Øyer- and Lillehammerfjellet there are many nice view peaks, even if they only reach 1100 m.

Inspiration

On the first leg of the trip from Nordseter (Lillehammer) to Pellestove Hotel, note that this is not a DNT cabin.

From Rondane, a wide, mighty mountain ridge stretches southwards. On the west side, the mountain undulates south over Øyerfjellet with marshes, grasslands, lakes and ridges until it turns into forest a few kilometers south of Sjusjøen. On the east side, the mountain continues as a ridge that gradually becomes lower south over Raufjellet, west of Rena.

Expansive grid

The mountain south from Rondane has been used by hikers and skiers for as long as there have been people in the surrounding valleys. The route network is so good that you can walk all the way to Dovrefjell on DNT's route network from Lillehammer and Nordseter.

History

The traces of man's use of these mountains are many. The roads between Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen cross the mountain in several places. Especially in Øyerfjellet, the mountain farms are close together. Goppollen, on the border between Ringebu and Øyer, was supposedly the largest mountain farm village in the country.

The occasional mountain farm is still run in the traditional way with a courier owner and dairy cows. But on most farms, the farmer is content to mow the grass and drive it to the village. At several of the mountain farms, there are also large new cultivation fields that provide good feed for the cattle in the village.
