Day trips from Finsehytta

With Finsehytta as a starting point, a sea of great winter hikes opens up. Whether you want easy, child-friendly trails or more demanding summit hikes, there is something that is perfect for you. The snow usually lies until the end of May. On this page you will find some of our recommended hiking tips.

Inspiration

The Orange Cabin

A nice trip for those who want an easy route or have children with you. Start at Finsehytta and follow the twiggly trails over Finsevann. After about 3 km in easy terrain, you will reach Orangehytta, which is located at the foot of Hardangerjøkulen. The cabin is not staffed, but on a good weather day it is popular to sit in the cabin wall, eat your lunch and enjoy a cup of cocoa in the sun.

  • LEVEL: EASY

Klemsburunden

Klemsburunden is a favorite among both guests and locals at Finse on days with both good and bad weather. From the train station, follow kvisting north between Lille Finsenut and Jomfrunuten. After 6 km you reach Klemsbu, where simple dining is offered on weekends during the winter season. Then continue west to complete the round back to Finse.

The Glacier Round

The round trip over Hardangerjøkulen is a fantastic ski trip and nature experience, and has become a spring classic here at Finse. This spectacular 23 km hike takes you to the top of Norway's sixth largest glacier, Hardangerjøkulen. The highest point is located at 1863 meters above sea level, and on good weather days you can enjoy a fantastic view in all directions. Remember to adapt the trip according to weather and driving conditions. This is a trip for days with good weather.

Little Finsenut

Nice trip all year round, with perhaps the best view in all of Finse. An accessible top that fits nicely as a morning walk before the train home. Follow the limbing towards Geiterygghytta until you reach the high-voltage pylons. From here, follow the high-voltage pylons into the mouth between Lille- and Store Finsenut before turning left towards the top. Also popular trip with ski touring skis.

  • LEVEL: Medium demanding
  • LIMBED: The pane will not be knotted.

Store Finsenut

 There are several ways to go up, but many people choose to go  up the ridge on the north side of the mountain, and run down west. This is a great trip in varied terrain, which is also suitable for ski touring.

  • LEVEL: Demanding
  • LIMBED: The route is not limbed

Read the avalanche warnings on varsom.no and familiarize yourself with the snow conditions where you are going on a trip. Have extra focus on what the avalanche problem is and how you can avoid it.
