The spring ski paradise Finse
At Finsehytta, the calm has descended after a lively Easter, but even though many people are now thinking about spring, some of the best skiing opportunities are still in store. The spring snow is both light and lovely to travel in, and we are surrounded by abundant amounts at Finse. This time of year is ideal for all types of skiing activities, from challenging long trips to short, close excursions, and even exciting kiting.
Skiing
As the days get longer, it opens up for longer and more challenging trips. The round over Hardangerjøkulen, which is well marked, offers fantastic views over large parts of southwest Norway. Hiking Hallingskarvet lengthwise is a long but incredibly rewarding trip that is also perfect for spring skiing.
Ice sculptures
1.5 hours from Finsehytta you will find natural ice sculptures that rise majestically from the snow cover. The ice formations are formed by glacier fragments that break away from the Hardangerjøkulen glacier and then float out onto the water before it freezes over. The result is spectacular sculptures that are hard to find anywhere else in the world.
