Swing technique and mindfulness on backcountry skis
Learn to ski slowly - get more peace and presence to yourself!
Feel how slow movements and increased attention give more contact with the body and the ground. This creates a new foundation for safety on skis, and it can also release old tensions and new joy.
We create a small, safe group for two days here on "The Roof of Norway" - and through sensory exploration we strengthen awareness of your movements, the surface and the powerful surroundings.
Increased awareness of how you habitually respond provides better conditions for discovering how you respond to tasks - both on the skis, and elsewhere in life. The course will therefore provide self-development that you can bring back to your usual everyday life.
Course
We start the day with slow chi gong and sensory exercises in long johns, indoors on a safe floor. Then we take the sensory attention out on skis, and on varying surfaces, and continue with attention exercises and turning technique on skis.
Both on the way up and down, we ask the fundamental question: How do I give – or hold back – my weight to the surface? This response is often evident through the immediate response from the skis.
Equipment: Mountain skis and shoes. Short or long skins. Randonee equipment can also be used. Ski equipment can be rented at Finse station - or from the course instructor in Nittedal. It is important to be dressed for the weather in the mountains, to be comfortable during quiet activity and breaks.
Target group: All 16-80 years old who want to become more confident on skis - and at the same time want to become more familiar with their own body and energy. You should be able to manage regular ploughs and walk 6-7 km in a whole day.
Attendance: Finse train station Friday at 16.32 (from Oslo 12.03) - with ski boots on and dressed to be out for a little hour.
Ending: Hot soup at Finse 1222 Sunday at 5 pm. Train to Oslo 18.06.

Course instructor: Ski instructor and gestalt therapist Pål-Trygve Gamme.
Pål T has 35 years of experience with courses in mountain skiing, telemark and summit touring as well as sea kayaking. He has tested all mountain skis and is UTE's subject expert in the "Mountain Ski School". For the past 13 years, he has practiced as a gestalt/holistic therapist and had weekly guidance in sensory sensitivity (tension regulation). This experience gives him an eye to guide to appropriate discoveries in his own movements and activation level.
"I really felt that the mindfulness exercises made me better at focusing on weight distribution on the slopes. It was great fun! In any case, the course was definitely something for everyone who likes to get to know themselves better!"
