Access to Fondsbu
Fondsbu is located at Eidsbugarden near Bygdin. Both summer and winter you can get all the way to the cabin by public transport. In the summer, there is a road all the way to the cabin. And in winter, you can take the legendary snowcat from Tyin to Eidsbugarden.
How to get to Fondsbu in the summer
Fondsbu can easily be reached by public transport from both south, east, west – and even north!
By boat across Bygdin in the summer
You can take the boat Bitihorn from Bygdin Fjellhotell to Eidsbugarden/Fondsbu. The boat also has a port of call at the self-service cabin Torfinnsbu. The boat trip across Bygdin is an experience in itself! Daily departures during the summer months of July - September.

Combining bus and boat is easy:
Norway Bussekspress runs both to/from Bygdin Fjellhotell and Eidsbugarden Fondsbu.
By car all the way to the front
Fondsbu is located at Eidsbugarden at the end of county road 252. AT Eidsbugarden there is public parking owned by private landowners for a fee. There is also a charging station for electric cars in connection with the parking. Fondsbu DNT does not own its own parking space.
From Oslo/Bergen
Follow the E16 to Tyinkrysset. Take Highway 53 towards Årdal and Tyin. At Tyin, turn off on county road 252 to Eidsbugarden
From Trondheim
Follow E6 to Sel. Take off on county road 438 to Vågåmo. Follow RV 15 to Tessand, turn off towards Fagernes and Beitostølen on RV 51 and follow this to Skammestein south of Beitostølen. Then take off on county road 2508 towards Ryfoss. From Ryfoss follow the E16 towards Bergen to Tyinkrysset, turn off on Highway 53 towards Årdal and Tyin. At Tyin, you turn off on county road 252 to Eidsbugarden.
Alternative routes:
- Park at Bygdin at RV 51 and take MB Bitihorn from to Eidsbugarden/Fondsbu
- Take the fantastic drive over Slettefjell (in good weather). From Beitostølen via Beito, and to Lykkja. From there on the private toll road Slettefjell to Hemsing Bru by the E16, and then follow the E16 to Tyinkrysset and further as described above.
From Lillehammer
Take the E6 towards Oslo to Vingrom, and from here turn off on county road 250 to Dokka. From Dokka on county road 33 to Bjørgo, and from there on the E16 to Tyinkrysset. Turn off onto Highway 53 towards Årdal and Tyin, and from Tyin turn off on County Road 252 to Eidsbugarden
By bus from/to Oslo
In the summer, the bus goes every day all the way to Eidsbugarden where Fondsbu is located. Take the express bus from Oslo or Årdal with a change at Tyinkrysset. Apply to/from Eidsbugarden.
By bus from/to Bergen

How to get to Fondsbu in winter
Even in winter, it is easy to get to Fondsbu by public transport. From Tyin, you book a seat on a snowcat or ski into the cabin.
By car to Tyin
From Oslo via Fagernes to Tyin, about 4 hours.
From Bergen via Årdal to Tyin, about 4 hours.
There is a large parking lot at Tyin. Continue by snowcat or skiing over Tyin. It is about 20 km to Eidsbugarden/Fondsbu.

By bus to Tyin in winter
You can take the bus from Oslo or Årdal to Tyin. Bus change at Tyinkrysset.
From Tyin, you can continue with a tracked car all the way to the cabin. Or you can ski across Tyin, along a twig-strewn route.

By snowcat from Tyin to Eidsbugarden
In winter, JVB runs daily routes with snowcat transport to Eidsbugarden/Fondsbu. It is an experience to drive with the nostalgic snowcats. Here you have the opportunity to get high in the mountains in a comfortable and exciting way. 12 Bombardier Snowmobile veterans enter service between Tyin and Eidsbugarden in Jotunheimen during the winter season.
